'Manifest' has time and again opened up plot points that the NBC show neglected to follow up over the course of the first half of the first season. While the show is all set to return to explore the mystery of the plane, fans are now wondering what exactly happened to the air hostess, Bethany, and her nephew, Thomas.
Starring Josh Dallas as Ben Stone, Athena Karkanis as Grace, Mugga as Bethany, and Sheldon Best as Thomas, NBC's Jeff Rake-created show has been following the aftermath of the sudden re-appearance of Montego Air Flight 828 which went missing for almost five and a half years.
When the passengers landed they realized that none of them had aged a day, and those who were foreign nationals were immediately abducted by UDS to conduct experiments of the "Callings", a term the passengers use to refer to strange voices that they have been hearing inside their heads ever since coming back.
However, even though Bethany's nephew, Thomas, was himself a foreign national, she had managed to rescue him from the UDS and hid him with her for as long as possible. Bethany revealed in the third episode, that she had smuggled Thomas into the plane so that he could reunite with his lover, who had apparently gone missing many years ago.

Although Thomas certainly has an interesting backstory, unfortunately, the show has somehow seemed to have entirely forgotten about these two characters. When Bethany tried to rescue Thomas, she was herself taken in by the FBI and we still do not know if her wife was able to take Thomas to a safe place after the arrest.
A fan on Reddit mentioned about the promo pictures that see Bethany and Captain Daly encounter the cops. "Bethany is in the promo photos for the next episode- so we might find out more about her and when they released her from prison. Bethany’s wife took Thomas and they disappeared so he would be safe."
However, speculations are also being made that probably Thomas was taken by the UDS and when the FBI discovers that they decide to let go of Bethany. Although we still do not know if that is the reason behind her release by the FBI, and what exactly is she up to as seen in the promo pictures, it can be assumed that probably in the second half she will be able to track down Thomas and reunite him with his lover. 'Manifest' returns on January 7, after its long Fall break, and we cannot wait to find out what is in store for the passengers.
