Manchester United picked up where they left off in the UEFA Champions League as they hammered a 5-0 win against German giants, RB Leipzig on Wednesday (October 28). Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford found the back of the net with the latter striking a hattrick, coupled with a penalty shot by Anthony Martial as the Red Devils showcased a clinical performance at Old Trafford.

Coming on the back of a drawn affair against Chelsea in the ongoing Premier League, United took the fight to Leipzig with Greenwood hitting the first goal in the 21st minute. They went into halftime with a 1-0 that changed when Rashford struck a brace within five minutes of each other. The unforgettable game continued as he slammed one more in the additional time (90+2). Martial, coming back into the Champions League broke his dry goalless spell with that penalty goal. It was celebrations galore for the United fans as they took to Twitter to celebrate a rightful victory.

For the United faithful, this was the vintage Red Devils performance that was needed, which also was a huge sign of relief. "God we needed this type of game," read one of the comments on Twitter.

Rashford was an impact substitute. Coming in at the 63rd minute, he turned the game on its head as he breached Leipzig's defense without breaking into a sweat. "Absolutely delighted with tonights result. Rashford unplayable from he stepped on the pitch! He deserved that!!" a tweet read.

There were some impressive stats that didn't go unnoticed. "Marcus Rashford in 27 minutes: 19 touches 4 duels won 3/4 take-on's completed 3 goals. Absolutely sensational."

And the accolades poured in for the team and Rashford. "They wrote Manchester United off during the draws... Guess who is shutting them up now. A Well deserved hattrick to Rashford. #GGMU #MUNRBL" a fan commented.

"Rashford is putting food in children's plate and also putting goals in the back of the net," tweeted one of the fans after the striker made news for fighting for free school meals for children.

It was a United show all along as seven of their 14 attempted shots were on target. While they may have lost in the ball possession percentage to Leipzig, they compensated it with precision striking to which their opponents had no answer. With this win, they now top the table in their group. There was some credit coming in for Paul Pogba as well.

"Paul Pogba’s game by numbers vs. RB Leipzig (81 minutes played): 86% pass accuracy 15 final third passes 4 tackles 3 interceptions 1 through ball 1 assist Getting sharper with every game," read one of the tweets.

"Seemed inconceivable at the start of last week that United could qualify for the last 16 with games to spare but they should do so now. Back-to-back games with Basaksehir to come with Leipzig and PSG guaranteed to take points off each other. Perfect from #mufc in Europe so far," read a tweet from United writer, Samuel Luckhurst.

With this win, United will be a supremely confident unit as they return the Premier League to take on a wobbly Arsenal on Saturday (October 31). Currently placed 15th on the points table, there's no doubt Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will be making steady strides in the tournament if they continue to dish out these kinds of performances.
