Who will Manchester United finally sign? First, they lost winger Gareth Bale to Tottenham Hotspur. They are still negotiating with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho. Recent reports say the discussions do not see the 20-year-old moving to Old Trafford anytime soon despite the United management determined to fight till the transfer window closes on October 5. For now, they have a concrete signing in Donny van de Beek from Ajax for $43.4 million (£40million).

Talksport had some updates regarding the transfer. As per the site, Michael Zorc, the Dortmund chief firmly stated Sancho would not be moving anywhere. "We are planning with Sancho,” he said. “He'll play for us next season. The decision is final. I think that answers all of the questions. Last summer, we adjusted the salary in line with Jadon's performance. In this context, we have extended the contract until 2023." It also added United are in talks with Barcelona over a transfer for their forward, Ousmane Dembele.

And amid all the news of transfers, Ole Gunnar Solskjær's men host the formidable Tottenham Hotspurs at Old Trafford. The current season has seen the Spurs at the eighth position on the table with a win, a loss and a tie while the Red Devils have played two games winning one and losing the other. Solskjær will be keen on seeing some names join the outfit and will be hoping for the Dembele deal to come through. According to ESPN's Rob Dawson, the deal might be feasible considering Barca's efforts to fund a bid for Lyon's Memphis Depay.

In addition, United are also interested in Juventus' Douglas Costa, Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic, and Watford's Ismaila Sarr as alternatives should they fail to sign Sancho. Goal, in its report, said Real Madrid striker, Luka Jovic is set to leave the club on loan and highlighted United as the probable destination. The player has been chased by AC Milan, Inter, and Roma, however, it does appear United might end up as Jovic's team. The site added his move depends on a team that provides the most time on the field.

The transfer issues have been a headache for United and they will hope for some good news coming their way. They take on Brighton in the EFL Cup at the Falmer Stadium on Wednesday before facing off Jose Mourinho's men on Sunday. The Spurs had a massive 5-2 win against Southampton and tied with New Castle before winning against Chelsea in the penalty shootout in the EFL Cup. They take on Maccabi Haifa before they fancy their chances against United.

The game can be watched live on NBCSN at 11:30 am ET.
