Man murders toddler son by pushing his stroller into the sea because he was angry with his wife
52-year-old Wael Nabil Salman Zureikat is facing murder charges in Thailand over the death of his one-year-old son.
A father killed his one-year-old son by tying his feet to his stroller and pushing him into the sea because he was angry at his wife for going out to parties without him. Jordanian Wael Nabil Salman Zureikat was arrested on Monday, March 11, while on vacation in Pattaya, Thailand, for the murder of the infant.
According to the Daily Mail, the 52-year-old Zureikat murdered his son on Friday, March 8, at the Bali Hai Pier after he became annoyed with his wife for going out partying while he was stuck babysitting the infant.
He allegedly wanted her to babysit the child while he went out and explored Pattaya's nightlife and went into a "fit of anger" when he did not get his way, deciding he would kill their son as revenge. He proceeded to take the one-year-old out to the pier, tied the infant's feet to his stroller, and pushed him into the sea.
The body of the child was only discovered three days later by locals, who initially thought it must have just been a doll.
Speaking about the incident, speedboat captain Songsee Sunthornchai said, "I was taking tourists to an island and on the way back I noticed a body floating in the water. I saw it from far away and thought it was a doll, but when I went closer I saw it was the body of a doll and called police."
Police arrived at the scene to recover the body, with Pattaya Police Lieutenant Colonel Piyapong Ensarn saying, "Police were notified of the body floating in the water at the Bali Hai Pier and we arrived at the scene to check. There was a young child between one-year-old and two-years-old who had been dead for two or three days. The body was examined and found that the left leg was tied to a pushchair and found no signs of being hurt."
A manhunt was subsequently launched to find the killer and detectives tracked down and arrested Zureikat while he was trying to flee the country at the Suvarnabhumi Aiport in Bangkok. Officials said the 52-year-old was "acting suspiciously" as he tried to board his plane.
Zureikat reportedly confessed to the murder in the early hours of Tuesday, March 12, and told officers he had killed the infant after he became angry at his wife but that he immediately regretted doing so after coming back to their hotel room from the pier.
Ensarn confirmed the reports which claimed the 52-year-old admitted to the murder. "The case progressed and at 10 am on March 12, we co-operated with police forces to arrest the Jordanian tourist," he said. "He confessed to killing his son by tying him to a stroller and pushing him into the water."
"He said he had been to Pattaya many times and his wife had agreed to look after the baby," he continued. "She went outside to bars to party and he did not want to stay alone looking after their son. He said he decided to kill the boy then try to fly home but he was captured at the airport."
