Elderly California man dies 3 days after being knocked to ground outside Starbucks for questioning loud music
ROCKLIN, CALIFORNIA: A 20-year-old man has been arrested after an elderly man died three days after being brutally beaten up. Robert Ketner, 69, suffered serious injuries after being allegedly attacked by River Baumann on Sunday, October 18, The Sun reported. Initially, the 20-year-old accused was taken into custody after the alleged attack but was later granted bail.
However, when Ketner succumbed to injuries at the hospital, Baumann was arrested again on Wednesday, October 21, when he “showed up to the police department to pick up his vehicle”. He has now been charged with voluntary manslaughter and his bail has been set at $250,000. “The victim was punched and he fell to the ground sustaining an injury to his head and he never regained consciousness,” Rocklin Detective Zack Lewis told KOVR. The victim’s family said he stopped at the Starbucks on Rocklin Road when the incident happened. Ketner allegedly confronted Baumann for playing music too loud when the suspect knocked him to the ground.
“He was kind of sitting outside, drinking his latte when the vehicle of some sort came by. It was like really loud music; people were complaining about it. So, he pointed out, like, which car it was and asked them to turn their music down,” a family member said. While Rocklin Police Cpl. Zack Lewis was quoted as saying by KTXL, “Whatever the argument was, no one deserves to lose their life. So, it’s a sad thing that we have to experience this.”
Meanwhile, an obituary written for the senior citizen stated that Ketner, who graduated from Blairsville High School, “enjoyed being a grandfather & great-grandfather.” The obituary also referred to him as an “avid motorcycle rider” and the one who “loved telling funny stories & hanging around with friends.” “He is survived by his wife Nancy Schwab-Ketner, brother William S Ketner, Jr, sister Sandra K (Ketner) Bloom, son Wm Scott Sullivan, daughter Tracy (Sullivan) Wofford, step-son Anthony Capizzi, 8 grandchildren, & 3 great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life is being planned. Memorial contributions may be made to The National Motorcycle Safety Fund,” the eulogy added.
Earlier, in another incident, a disabled war veteran was allegedly punched by a man for asking why his girlfriend was not wearing a mask. Cody P Hansen was arrested for allegedly assaulting an unnamed 72-year-old man on July 18, leaving the elderly unconscious. The surveillance video from the Red Lion Inn and Suites in Kent showed the alleged attack carried out by Hansen. In the footage, the old man was seen sitting down on a chair in the lobby when the suspect began punching him continuously on the face that resulted in his broken jaw. After the assault, the accused left the premises.
Eventually, Hansen was arrested in lieu of a $10,000 bail and charged with assault 2nd Degree - substantial bodily harm. At the time, Spokane Police said he will be shifted to King County. Also, other reports stated that the accused was on a search list of the Alaskan authorities on drug charges and probation violations. His criminal records have shown that he has nine arrests, dating back to 2006. His most recent arrest took place two years ago.
