Maleesa Mooney: Family of pregnant model found dead in LA apartment says she was 'too disfigured' for an open casket
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The family of a pregnant model named Maleesa Mooney, 31, who was found dead in a Los Angeles apartment on September 12, shared the harrowing details of her murder and closed-casket funeral.
They said they could not see her one last time because the brutal attack left her "too disfigured" and that she was "in a struggle."
Police are on the lookout for Maleesa Mooney's killer
Her sister Jourdine Pauline told New Nation said she was two months pregnant. Her death came just two days after another Black model was found dead less than three miles away.

Police are still looking for the killer or killers who committed the gruesome act.
"I just found out through the family (of the guy) she was talking to, they said that they were expecting," Pauline said.
She had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for the week after her tragic death on September 12, 2023.
"She just wanted to be married and have children and not bother anybody, you know, definitely wanted a family. That’s one thing my sister really wanted… a family," Pauline added.

She told the station, "She [Maleesa] was in a struggle, both her ankles were broken … her hands, her legs."
She added while tearing up, "It’s very gruesome details. she was definitely in a struggle. It wasn’t something that quickly happened."
"All I know is it was a torturous act," Pauline said, adding "They (the suspect) did multiple things to her body, you know? The police can’t even pinpoint what exactly took her."
The mortician cried after finding about Maleesa Mooney's death
The mortician apparently cried and told the family it was too traumatic for them to look at the body.
She said they did their best at "putting her together" but it still had to be a closed casket.
"We have to have a closed casket, we can’t even see her," she said to the station.
"The people at the mortuary don’t even want us to see her because he said it's traumatic. The guy at the mortuary started crying for us because it’s that traumatic," she added.

Maleesa Mooney's family wants to know why anyone would do such a horrible thing
Pauline continued, "Why would someone do this to her, you know. It’s just really messed up. We just need to find the people who would do this. What did my sister do to deserve that."
"I need to get this word out so people can be aware, be more safe," she added.

The murder continues to be a mystery as police have not released any details about the perpetrator or perpetrators involved in the killing of Mooney.
