'Making It' season 2 is all wrapped up and we have a winner in Justine Silva, a Los Angeles-based interior and spatial designer who impressed the judges and viewers alike with her unique design sensibility that is both modern and traditional. Her projects have stood out since day 1, but her final one was everyone's favorite - the functional record invite and a photo booth that had drum cymbals as props.

The crafting competition series was quite the learning curve for Justine - it left her inspired and wanting to say yes to opportunities. "Since it's timed and televised, you want to put your best foot forward. I struggle with a lot with self-doubt, but when it's timed you cannot afford to fall into that trap," she told MEA WorldWide while elaborating on the experience she had on the show.

The competition would have been different if she didn't have experience in window and retail display. Because Justine is used to working on a tight budget and quick turnarounds, her background helped her ace most of the time-bound challenges. But that didn't mean she didn't stress out. Even though she was working in an encouraging environment, the giant clock that was ticking down as they worked brought in the sweats.

"I like to go big to small, leaving all the finer details later. Last 20 minutes where all the stress came in because you had to get done with all the finishing touches," she added.  Even though Justine is kicking back for a while, taking a breather, she would want to collaborate with her fellow contestants as she believes they all bring in unique skillsets to the table and are talented in their own ways.

Talking about her favorite crafts on the show, Justine said it was the shed project that caught her fancy and she was really invested in it. "The shed hack was my favorite. I am super interested in interior designing. It was fun because it incorporated a lot of small elements to tell a bigger story," the master crafter expressed and went on to add that the party too was a fun craft just because of the scale of it.

For the shed, each contestant had 9 hours to pull it off and to wind up such a large scale project one needs to be good with time management, which clearly Justine was. Justine is a humble winner and is enjoying every bit of her new milestone, but she is also allowing her learning experiences to seep into her life so that she can use them to further her career in a meaningful manner. "I think it has really taught me so much about myself and what I want out of my design career. It has taught me to say yes to opportunities. If you push yourself, you can achieve more than what you thought was possible," she signed off.
