Nearly sixty-two percent of the Democrat voters in New Hampshire said that they would prefer human extinction over another term of President Donald Trump. The respondents expressed their views during a University of Massachusetts-Lowell survey. Voters in New Hampshire are set to choose their favorite 2020 presidential candidate in the state primary on February 11.

The poll found out that even a higher percentage of people — 69 percent — making less than $50,000 a year and female voters agreed that they would prefer a giant meteor wiping out humanity to Trump getting re-elected in November this year. Independent voters surveyed also appeared to echo similar sentiments, with relatively large support for the meteor strike. Just over half of the Independents supported Trump over extinction.

The survey of nearly 400 likely Democratic primary voters asked respondents: "Which of the following outcomes would you prefer to occur on November 3, 2020? - Donald Trump wins re-election or a giant meteor strikes the earth, extinguishing all human life?" Joshua J. Dyck, UMass-Lowell Associate Professor who led publishing of the survey, while talking to Newsweek on Saturday, said that the "giant meteor" question was incorporated to gauge the amount of "partisan anger" and polarization among the American voters.

Dyck acknowledged that the question was a bit "tongue-in-cheek". However, he defended it by saying that it assists in illustrating just "how angry Democrats are" as they head to vote in the primaries. He also noted that a similar survey was conducted in 2016 where millennials were asked about their choice of candidate. Both former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Trump had higher unfavorability ratings than they did positive favorability.

In the recent survey, only thirty-eight percent of the respondents chose Trump over their own deaths. However, seventy-two percent of those who identified with a "conservative ideology" said that they would prefer Trump to be re-elected in 2020, and 31 percent of the moderates said that they would favor Trump's re-election over human extinction.

The survey also asked the likely Democratic voters in the state on who they believe is most likely to beat Trump in the 2020 polls. Most responded with former Vice President Joe Biden (42 percent) having better chances to defeat the president while Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders came second receiving 31 percent support of the respondents. Nearly 27 percent said that both candidates "are about equally likely to defeat Donald Trump".
