Madeleine McCann: German cops have ‘no evidence, just speculation’ against Christian Brueckner, says leaked memo
A leaked memo has disclosed that Madeleine McCann’s cops have “no evidence, just speculation” that Christian Brueckner kidnapped the three-year-old girl. Officers from Portugal said that their German counterparts have no solid proof to claim that the convicted rapist was behind Madeleine’s 2007 disappearance.
As per The Sun, the Policia Judiciaria officials in Portugal met Germany's BKA and Scotland Yard to have a discussion about the investigation in Lisbon. Now, in the leaked memo from the Policia Judiciaria, an unidentified officer has said, “There is no evidence, just speculation. When reading the German case I was shocked. I never thought that the BKA would investigate so badly. It is not a serious and objective investigation, but only just to keep the suspect in prison at all costs. The meeting was to get the point of the situation, the BKA wants to investigate the other two cases of possible sexual harassment so that the suspect does not leave prison until the end of the year and they will drop the suspect.''
This comes weeks after reports stated that German investigators were planning to go to Praia Da Luz to prove Brueckner the culprit. In late October, it has been said that the 43-year-old was set to be "wound down" in the New Year owing to a lack of evidence or clues. But German cops working on the case were keen on going to Portugal in a "desperate bid" to generate fresh leads on Brueckner.
An insider said, “German officers believe there are areas of the investigation into [Christian B] and his time in Portugal which would benefit from having boots on the ground. Most specifically there are unanswered questions about [Christian B's] movements in the days and weeks after [Madeleine] vanished. German officers also think witnesses still living in Portugal could hold vital clues. They’d be devastated to close the case on this investigation without going over to the Algarve and turning over every stone they can.”
Besides, sources also said that there is a huge difference between German and Portuguese investigators as the former believe Brueckner was behind the kid’s abduction, but the latter one has reportedly always maintained that probing the jailed pedophile was a "waste of time". “It is no secret the German and Portuguese teams have a different view on this case and on whether [Christian B] is involved. This is part of the reason why German detectives would love to return,” an insider added.
Brueckner was identified as the prime suspect in June this year by German authorities after it was found he was living near Praia da Luz in Portugal when Madeleine vanished 13 years ago holidaying with her family. But in mid-October, Brueckner's lawyer Friedrich Fulscher claimed that after checking the suspect’s mobile records and examining the areas around the flat in Praia da Luz from where the kid disappeared between 9.10 pm and 10 pm on May 3, 2007, it turned out that he “did not commit this crime.” “If the witness statements are correct, there was a time window of 1 minute and 30 seconds in which the child could have been abducted,” Fulscher added.
