'MacGyver' Season 4 Episode 1 Preview: Mac is back with a brand new mission and a mysterious new benefactor
Angus "Mac" MacGyver (Lucas Till) is all set to make his triumphant return in an all-new season of CBS's 'MacGyver'. This time, the stakes are as high as ever, and Mac has a new benefactor who he can't possibly trust — played by 'Scandal' star Henry Ian Cusick.
In the first episode of 'MacGyver' Season 4, titled 'Fire + Ashes + Legacy = Phoenix', Mac and his former colleagues from the Phoenix Foundation are recruited by the mysterious Russ Taylor (Henry Ian Cusick), a former secret agent and military contractor who's exceptionally shady. We're pretty sure there's bound to be a double-cross of some sort coming up but we'll just have to wait and see.
Right now, Taylor is Mac's best shot at getting back to doing what he does best: using his scientific and mechanical expertise to save the world. And whether he likes it or not, there are still cases out in the world that only Mac can solve so it's really no choice after all.
Thankfully, Mac's not going to be alone in his new mission. He'll be joined by Riley Davis (Tristin Mays), Wilt Bozer (Justin Hires), Matty Webber (Meredith Eaton), and Desi Nguyen (Levy Tran), which is good because there's a dangerous bioweapon and a mysterious new organization involved so this is certainly an all hands on deck situation.
Here's the synopsis for the season premiere: "Ex-MI6 agent Russ Taylor recruits former Phoenix Foundation members Mac, Riley, Bozer, Matty and Desi to hunt down a bioweapon that's planned to be used by a mysterious organization for a devastating attack on a major US city."
Right now Russ's intentions are a bit of a mystery but in an interview with TVLine, Cusick gave fans some insight into what his character does and why he does it.
"This season is more serialized if not less procedural, so we have one archenemy running all the way through it, and the archenemy is Codex," Cusick revealed. "Russ Taylor has a long history with Codex, and that’s one of the reasons he signed Mac up to his team, to get to Codex. We also have a lot of great guest stars coming in — I was very impressed with the people that they bring into the show — and there’s a different tone to it. Even though it’s still fun family drama, it’s a bit darker from previous seasons. I’ve seen clips while doing ADR, and some of it looks really glossy and shiny…. It’s looking really good, I think."
'MacGyver' Season 4 will premiere on CBS on February 7 at 8/7c.
