Cannibal porn star Luka Magnotta who murdered an international undergraduate student could be released from jail due to the coronavirus outbreak. Magnotta reportedly lured Jun Lin to his apartment with a Craigslist personal ad in which he said he wanted to make a “fun” movie and then consumed parts of the body after killing him.

Magnotta, who gained newfound international attention after the Netflix hit crime documentary ‘Don't F**k With Cats’ premiered in 2019, was sent to Port-Cartier prison in Quebec, Canada, after he was found guilty of first-degree murder of Lin along with charges for the killing of cats in 2014. He is serving his jail term with a host of criminals at the facility that has 243 cells in three blocks, 30 of which are reserved for long-term inmates.

As per a report by Daily Mail, the inmates of the Port-Cartier prison could be released since ten of its inmates have fallen ill with the deadly virus where social distancing is almost impossible. The jail’s 16 officers have also confirmed to have tested positive with Covid-19, bringing the total cases to 26.

Earlier this month, government medical professionals in an open letter, claimed that Canada's jails and prisons do not meet social distancing guidelines for the pandemic and they want as many inmates as possible to be released. “Conditions are crowded, prisoners share cells, they must be frisked and handcuffed by officers, line up daily for medication, share common spaces and dining halls, and use the same telephones and washrooms,” the letter said.

“They also lack access to some of the critical supplies people in the community are using to keep themselves safe, such as hand sanitizer, cleaning products, and sometimes soap,” it added.

However, the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers, which represents federal prison guards, did not agree with the proposal demanding the release of the prisoners. It said the release of inmates would not solve the potential spread of the lethal virus and would only increase the risk to the Canadians.

Even Magnotta’s ex-girlfriend did not want him to be released from prison due to coronavirus. Barbie Swallows told Daily Mail, “He knows the difference between right and wrong, he deliberately murdered an innocent victim and those sweet little kittens. I hope the coronavirus finds him in prison, he has no remorse for what he did and only cares about himself.” Incidentally, Lin was from Wuhan, China.

Meanwhile, earlier reports claimed that Magnotta, who had killed and chopped Lin in June 2012 before filming him eating the victim, had boasted about his prison life, claiming it was more like being on a college campus. “Our doors are open 90% of the time so for me, I feel like I'm in a university setting,” he said in a letter sent to a friend obtained by the Toronto Sun back in 2015. He also added in the letter that he loved having pizza parties and sunbathing in jail.

Magnotta had also sent Lin’s body parts to schools and political parties. However, he claims that he was framed for the murder by a mysterious character named 'Manny’.
