MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM: Nurse Lucy Letby of Countess of Chester Hospital, who is charged with the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of 10 others between 2015 and 2016, fainted at work after killing two of three triplets by allegedly injecting the newborn boys with air. The two babies, named Child O and Child P, died within 24 hours of being born in "good condition" in June 2016.

Manchester Crown Court heard on Monday, March 20, that Child P's condition deteriorated on June 24, 2016, as he had to be resuscitated four times before he was pronounced dead, reports The Sun. Letby, whose trial began on October 10, 2022, was stuck in the finger with a needle during the last resuscitation attempt and had to go to the emergency room for routine blood tests, after which Letby fainted. An unnamed doctor, whom friends say she flirted with, offered to drive her home.

Facebook messages exchange between the two was read out in court. The doctor, who was also involved in the resuscitation efforts, asked Letby if she had been seen yet. To which she replied, "Yes just got back. I made a fool of myself whilst there." The doctor said, "I asked them to be quick for you. How did you make a fool of yourself?" Letby replied, "They said someone had asked for me to been seen asap and they knew what had happened today. Everyone talking about it whilst I was there. I fainted."

'The family thanked me'

The doctor then asked if she was fine now and offered to drive Letby home after she told him she was "shakey." She later thanked him. The doctor said, "I can't have you walking back in the dark after a rubbish day, mini needlestick and an A&E faint," and later asked, "What are u doing? I can't concentrate on anything." Letby said, "Wanting to," followed by cry emoji. The doctor said, "Did in car. Must have looked a right mess when I got in." Letby replied, "I keep thinking of them [Child O and Child P] both in the cot together. So peaceful yet beyond words how awful it is."

Letby, who denies all charges, further said, "So sad. The family thanked me when I took [Child P] in dressed. And I know age doesn't make it any easier/harder but such a lot to go through at a young age." The doctor expressed, "I don't know how it would be possible to get over losing a child, let alone 2." Letby responded with a crying emoji, "Think my head may explode…"

The deaths of Child O and Child P

According to DailyMail, the 33-year-old neo-natal nurse is accused of injecting air into stomachs and bloodstreams of the premature siblings. The court heard that the triplets, three brothers, were born weighing around 4lbs. However, Child O “unexpectedly” died at 5.45 pm on June 23, 2016, while child P’s condition got worse 23 hours later and he died at 4.pm. The unidentified doctor told jurors that there was no "clear cause" to determine what happened to Child P.
