'Lucifer' Season 5 Part 1: Will Amenadiel face repercussions for refusing to bring Charlie over to Heaven?
While Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and Detective Chloe Decker (Laura German) struggled with belonging to two different worlds and season 4 was an arc about how each of them came to realize the importance of the other person in their life, 'Lucifer' also had other important characters have their struggles and conflicts as well. One of the most important plotlines, followed by that of Lucifer and Chloe is that of Lucifer's brother Amenadiel (DB Woodside), Dr. Linda Martin (Rachel Harris) and Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt). Linda and Amenadiel's short-lived affair had led to Linda becoming pregnant with Amenadiel's angel baby. While at the beginning of the last season, Amenadiel did propose to Linda, she politely refused and said that all she needed at the moment was support.
Amenadiel and Linda worked through this unaccepted progress in their relationship over time, but it was not a smooth transition for either of them. While Linda had to accept that she had a half-human and half-angel baby to bring up, Amenadiel had to decide how this news would affect affairs in Heaven. Unlike Lucifer, who is assumed to be a fallen angel, Amenadiel is an intricate part of Heaven's affairs and the reason that he had arrived on Earth in the first place was to bring Lucifer back to where he belonged.
Just as he had expected, angel Remiel came calling when the presence of a half-angel baby was felt. The angel tried to convince Amenadiel that it would be better for his baby to be brought up in Heaven than on Earth but Amenadiel initially refuses. In fact, the two have a showdown in which Remiel loses, however, he only leaves after warning Amenadiel that he will regret bringing up his baby on Earth.
Though Amenadiel was not aware that angels could impregnate humans, now that he had, he wanted to be a part of Linda and his baby's life. Initially, he had also not intended to take the baby away from Linda, however, there comes a point in season 4 when Amenadiel loses all faith in humanity, he sees reason to Remiel's argument. He also considers taking Charlie to Heaven as well, but that is just momentary. However, when Charlie does go missing, the first thing Linda assumes is that Amenadiel took her away. It is only later that she realizes that her baby has been kidnapped by devils Dromos and Squee who appeared on Earth with Eve's help.
Amenadiel with Lucifer, Mazikeen, Chloe, Eve and Dan's help does rescue his baby. However, this struggle between Heaven and Hell helps Amenadiel decide that he definitely doesn't want his child to be a part of the world that has resulted in ruining Lucifer's life. This happened at the finale of season 4, and now, taking note of Remiel's warning, it makes us wonder if the upcoming season will see an arrival from Heaven that would lay claim to Charlie's life. The baby now has an angel (Amenadiel) and devil (Mazikeen) as guardians, but even they might not be able to stop a Heavenly intervention.
Amenadiel had already taken time in sending Lucifer back to guard the gates of Hell. Now that he has disobeyed the orders from Heaven, what kind of repercussions will Amenadiel face? In season 2, we had seen Amenadiel lose his power to manipulate time, and he had also lost his wings at this time. It would be interesting to see a recurrence of this theme if God intends to punish his children again in Season 5.
'Lucifer' Season 5 Part 1 is scheduled to release on August 21 and can be streamed on Netflix.
