'Lucifer' Season 5, Part 1 is all set to premiere, and there are many questions that we have, which we hope is answered in the upcoming season. However, before we delve into that, here's a look at where we left Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and Detective Chloe Decker (Laura German). In season 4, we saw Chloe slowly try to reconnect with Lucifer after she learned the truth about him being 'the Lucifer Morningstar', the god of the underworld mostly referred to as Devil and Satan among other names. Right after learning about Lucifer's truth, Chloe had taken time off and when she returned, she had accepted Lucifer as just her partner and nothing more.

We learn that she had been in contact with a priest whose division at church knows about the existence of Lucifer and has been trying to send him back where he belongs. This church has information about Lucifer Morningstar that paints him as a repulsive character who is against everything that is right in the world. However, having come to know Lucifer personally, and continuing her association with him, it has become clear that Lucifer is nothing like what the priest has painted him to be.

As she learns about the discrepancies about Lucifer's character, she finds herself getting drawn to him again and this time, she knows the truth about Lucifer being the devil himself. She takes on the task of finding out who Lucifer is really and if he has a face that he hasn't revealed to Chloe. In the process, she betrays Lucifer's confidence, but she does manage to reveal Kinley's true intentions and even arrests him. However, Lucifer is deeply hurt by her deception and it is at this time that Eve enters Lucifer's life again.

He returns to his old ways of indulging in every desire that one would associate with Lucifer, the Devil. In Eve's company, Lucifer transforms into a man who has nothing to lose but to enjoy every pleasure that the human world has to offer. Chloe witnesses all of this, and even sees Eve kiss Lucifer after accepting his devil face. This does dismay her, but she doesn't interfere in Lucifer's life for the moment, as the two take a break. Instead, Chloe learns all there is about the supernatural. Meanwhile, while working on one of their cases, Lucifer announces Eve is his girlfriend, however, Eve realizes very soon that only Chloe can make Lucifer vulnerable and has his heart.

Eve understands that Lucifer working for the LAPD is throwing a wrench in their dating life and green with envy, she decides to remind Lucifer of who he is. When one of his LAPD friends, Joan is killed during an investigation, Eve pushes Lucifer to punish the perpetrator and as a result Lucifer breaks the criminal's spine. Dan, who is bitter over his girlfriend Charlotte's (Lucifer and Amenedial's mother) death has doubts about Lucifer being the reason behind the criminal's injuries, but Chloe doesn't believe him. However, Lucifer does confess to the same hoping that Chloe will help him since she has seen his good side.

Over last season, we also learned about how Lucifer suffers from deep-seated self-hatred over all the punishment that he had sentenced as the Guardian of the Underworld and the reason he is transforming into the devil version of himself is because of this realization. While Chloe helps him in moving on from this hatred, accepting his mistakes, and forgiving himself to be able to return to his usual self, Eve ends up fulfilling the prophecy that priest Kinley had revealed to Chloe. The fact that Lucifer and his first love would wreak havoc on Earth comes true after Eve kills Kinley while trying to dispel the prophecy he believed in.

Eve also helps Dromos and Squee possess a human being. The two devils cause chaos when they try to get Lucifer to return with them to his rightful place. When he refuses, they plan a protest of sorts and bring over more devils to the human world resulting in Lucifer being forced to take on his devil's face to order them back to hell. As all of this happened, Chloe realized that she really did love Lucifer and even confessed to him, which he reciprocated. However, unknown to Chloe, Lucifer had also come to the realization that not Eve, but Chloe was his first true love. He believes that if the two were to remain together, they would bring forth destruction on Earth and so he returned to take what he assumed was his rightful place -- the Throne of Hell.

Season 5, Part 1, will now explore if and how Lucifer returns to Chloe's side.

'Lucifer' Season 5 Part 1 is scheduled to release on August 21 and can be streamed on Netflix.
