'Love, Victor', the recent show which is a spin-off of 'Love, Simon', centers on the experience of a high school boy Victor who explores his sexuality and finds out that he is gay. Actor Mateo Fernandez plays the role of Victor's brother Adrian in the show and he spoke to MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) about his role, his dynamics with the other members of the cast, and why he hopes that the show returns for a second season.

Speaking about how he got this role, Fernandez said, "I got the audition for the show a few days after I was signed by an agency in Los Angeles. But, I didn’t hear about it until a month later. Then, my manager called me and he said they wanted me to come to LA to test for the part. A few days later I got the call saying, I got the part. I couldn’t believe it! I literally fell on the floor!"

One of the things about Adrian's characters is how he plays peacekeeper in his family many a time. He expanded further on this characteristic and said, "I agree that Adrian definitely keeps peace in the family many times. I also think that because Adrian is so young, his parents don’t fight right in front of him and that helps Pilar and Victor see less fighting. He’s always happy and he lightens up the heavy scenes."

One of the interesting scenes in the show is of Adrian playing with a wand that is featured in 'Frozen', however, his grandfather doesn't like Adrian playing with feminine toys; but his parents explain that it is a toy fitting for a child. Speaking about the 'Frozen' toy and the film itself, Fernandez said, "I watched it for the first time when I was very young, so I don’t remember how much I liked it, but I got an Elsa wand (thank you eBay!) before 'Love, Victor' came out, and it’s the exact same one from the show!"

Fernandez also shared his experience of working with other cast members and said, "It was so amazing. Everyone in the cast and crew was so kind and loving. Ana (Ortiz) was the funniest person on set. She and Michael (Cimino) would make jokes and that helped me with shooting the first few weeks. Anthony (Turpel) and Mason (Gooding), we’re always there for me. Isabella (Ferreira) and I lived in the same building, so we saw each other a lot and rode together to and from the studio. I am so grateful to be part of such a wonderful cast."

The ending scene of 'Love, Victor' leaves a great opening for a second season, however, there has been no official renewal for the show. What does Fernandez expect? He answered, "I am really hoping for a season 2 because there are so many stories that haven’t been told yet. I have read interviews with the writers and producers of the show, and they have talked a little about writing season 2. I really hope there will be one."
