‘Love & Listings’: Tai calls his apprentice Taylor 'ghetto' and fans are furious with him
Taylor Schwartz is the youngest cast member of VH1's real-estate reality show 'Love & Listings'. At just 19, the young lass has already managed to carve a place for herself in the glamorous world of celebrity real-estate. She has already managed to rub off quite a few people the wrong way with her brutal honesty and unfiltered opinions. In the premiere episode, we saw her getting her claws out at fellow agent Ajani, who managed to snag Sean Kingston's deal. While the sudden outburst of Taylor at that moment seemed very random and bizarre, we later get to know that she was jealous of Ajani.
Taylor has been in the real-estate game for longer than Ajani and yet she isn't allowed to handle celebrity clients directly because her boss Tai doesn't let her. We even get a glimpse of the uncomfortable dynamic between Tai and Taylor, during one of the property showcases, when Tai talks down to Taylor and was in general rude to her. Taylor's behavior towards Ajani was completely uncalled for, but we also understand where her aggression is stemming from.
Jacob Knight, who happens to be Taylor's boyfriend suggests that Taylor communicate with Tai and resolve their issues. Instead of things getting better, they get messier when Taylor talks to Tai. Tai pulls aside Taylor during a networking event and confronts her about her poor attitude. Taylor immediately defends herself by saying that she never got any suggestions, feedback or support from Tai. At which point, he angrily refers to her actions as "ghetto sh*t". Taylor takes offense to his words and calls him out saying it was "tacky" of him to say that. People around too are shocked by Tai's behavior. Fellow agent Andrew Clinkscale tells in his confessional that he felt Tai's behavior put him in a poor light not just as a boss but also as a man." Taylor storms off from there.
Tai is Taylor's boss that still doesn't give him the right to talk in that manner to his employee or anybody for that matter. Fans too felt that way. A fan wrote, "Taylor might have been in the wrong but as a boss and mentor correct her or let it go. No matter what she did that didn’t give him the right to call her ghetto. He could have said it in a different more professional way. #loveandlistings". Fans also called out Tai for being racist. "Wait! For a white MAN to tell a BLACK person, “You’re doing ghetto shit”, is disgusting as shit and I don’t even like Taylor, but that wasn’t called for #LoveAndListings", wrote another fan. What irked many was the fact that Tai said all that while Taylor was just defending herself. Although Taylor isn't a fan-favorite character, still several people came out in support of her.
"I don’t care for Taylor but, the way her boss talks to her & basically demeans/undermines her is disgusting. #LoveAndListings", commented an angry fan. Few fans even called out the other black men in the room (the show has several African-American cast members) for not standing up to Tai. A fan tweeted, "Did this white man just say, " you're doing ghetto shit"? Why didn't any of the black people standing there hearing this, check his ass? Especially the black men?! #LoveandListings".
