The Los Angeles Rams may have walked away with a 20-17 win on Sunday, September 13, over the Dallas Cowboys, but for Rams head coach, Sean McVay, there was one more thing to be taken care of and it had to do with him wearing his mask. He was one of the few coaches who didn't wear the mask that landed him in trouble. In response, he said he will "do a better job" going forward as the NFL issued a memo asking all the coaches and staff on the sidelines of the game to wear face coverings.

McVay was even called out on Twitter on that day for not wearing his mask as fans urged him to adhere to the safety protocols set in place by the league. "We're in a pandemic and your coach can't wear his mask correctly? @RamsNFL, you're a joke. @NFL do your job and make an example of Sean McVay," read one of the recent tweets.

The coach did garner some flak on the day of the game. "Wait why did Sean McVay pull his mask down just to cover his mouth with the play call sheet to call a play? Wouldn’t just keeping the mask be easier?" a fan commented.

"Sean McVay holding his playsheet over his mouth instead of just pulling up his mask over his face is kinda hilarious," one of the fans remarked.

"Watching Sean McVay cover his mouth with his play sheet when he has a mask tucked under his chin is the dumbest thing I’ve seen. Put your mask on Sean! Then you can say whatever you want! No one can see your mouth," a fan tweeted.

According to Fox, McVay said he was sure the memo was directed at him. "I got to do a better job keeping my mask on over my face. It was really hot, and you have a headset on and it’s hard to communicate at times with that mask. I just got to do a better job. I got to do a better job with that mask." Also noticed without the mask was Raiders' head coach, John Gruden, and Cardinals coach, Kliff Kingsbury. The memo said, "Failure to adhere to this requirement will result in accountability measures being imposed against offending individuals and/or clubs."

McVay, in the recently concluded edition of HBO's 'Hard Knocks' had stressed the importance of following all the safety measures put in place by the NFL. The Rams had begun their training with a specific focus on lowering the infection rate. This meant following all the safety protocols of getting tested each day, social distancing, wearing a mask and following hygiene. For McVay, these were the things that would help them focus better on football when they take the field. The Rams will face the Philadelphia Eagles on the latter's home turf, Lincoln Financial Field at 1 pm ET on Sunday, September 20. The game can be watched live on Fox and the live commentary can be heard on NFL Game Pass, Westwood One, and Sirius XM. And if focus on the games would be one thing, fans will also be keeping a keen eye on McVay.
