American Sportscaster Stuart Scott was fondly remembered by fans when ESPN's 'Long Gone Summer' aired on Sunday night. The anchor was prominent on SportsCenter for his hip-hop style and use of catchphrases. And fans paid rich tribute to a man whose style of anchoring was well ahead of its time.

"He was so good and ahead of his time. RI.P. STU. #booyah," a fan tweeted. And the comments followed with most fans recollecting their favorite moment. "I miss Stuart Scott in general. Gone too soon," a fan opined. "We will NEVER forget you SS!!" a fan wrote. "Stuart Scott was the GOAT and that's when SportsCenter was at its best!" another exclaimed. "Came here for nostalgia, read the comments and found out Stuart Scott is dead... I'm stunned. RIP Stuart," a fan tweet read.

Stuart died on January 4, 2015, after battling neuroendocrine cancer. He was 49. Former US president Barack Obama's moving lines read: "I will miss Stuart Scott. Twenty years ago, Stuart helped usher in a new way to talk about our favorite teams and the day's best plays. For much of those twenty years, public service and campaigns have kept me from my family – but wherever I went, I could flip on the TV, and Stu and his colleagues on SportsCenter were there. Over the years, he entertained us, and in the end, he inspired us – with courage and love. Michelle and I offer our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues."

And to this day, fans remember the sportscaster fondly. "So very very much. My God, I miss Stuart Scott,"  one of the fans tweeted. "Rip to the GOAT!" wrote another fan. "Stuart Scott and Alfonso Ribeiro are the same people," a fan remarked.  On the thread where fans remembered Stuart, one fan also relived the epic 1998 baseball season. "I saw McGwire and Sosa that season in Pittsburgh and they both hit bombs in those games. For the Sosa one, I was right behind home plate. Knew it was gone as soon as he hit it. They may have juiced but that s**t was still exciting to see," the fan wrote.

'Long Gone Summer' is available for streaming on ESPN+
