London schoolgirl who fled to Syria and joined ISIS says she's pregnant and wants to come back

19-year-old Shamina Begum who fled to Syria in 2015 with her two friends to join ISIS now believes they were oppressive and 'don't deserve victory'
UPDATED FEB 14, 2019

A schoolgirl from London, who had fled to Syria in 2015 with her two friends to join ISIS at the age of 15, wants to come back to the UK so that her unborn child can get proper care, according to reports.

Shamina Begum, who is now 19 years old and pregnant, was recently tracked down to a refugee camp in Northern Syria where, while talking to The Times, she said: "All I want to do is come back to Britain." Begum's first two children died from illness and malnutrition and she is now concerned about her unborn child. She reportedly married a Dutch ISIS fighter named Yago Riedijk three weeks after she arrived in Syria.

Reports state that the 19-year-old is set to give birth "any day now" and she says she wants to come back to Britain because she "knows the baby will be taken care of" there. She has reportedly been in touch with her mother in Bethnal Green for support.
