'Little Fires Everywhere' Ending Explained: We need a Season 2 to see Izzy find the acceptance she deserves
The finale episode of Hulu's 'Little Fires Everywhere' leaves the heart broken for Izzy. She seemed to be the only one who seemed to have gotten a raw deal out of everyone in Shaker Heights since we met the Warren family and the Richardson family. She was "dumped" by her mother from a group picture, she was continually forced to fit the idea of perfection that her mother Elena had in her head. She had to fight peer pressure and bullying because her sexual identity did not suit the tastes of people at Shaker Heights. However, after she met Mia, Izzy had a sliver of hope.
At the end of 'Little Fires Everywhere' Season 1, all the hopes and dreams that Izzy had built little by little are broken apart because of her mother. Mia, who happened to Izzy's friend, mentor, and confidante left the town without a word for Izzy. She had given Izzy the hope to live beyond the pressure that Izzy faced in the present. She explained how there is nothing wrong with Izzy because of who she loved and Mia shares her love story that she hadn't shared even with her daughter Pearl. So to lose that one person who lifted you from the depths of loss and depression, cannot be easy to deal with and that is how it is for Izzy as well.
So when she decides to walk out on her family and face the world by herself, it breaks our heart. What is worse is her dream. When Izzy is on the bus, traveling away from Shaker Heights, she dreams that she meets Mia and Pearl on the way and the two give her a lift. This is symbolic of the acceptance that Izzy has been hoping for since the beginning and we hope there is a season 2, just to see Izzy get what she deserves. Sure Elena came to a realization after seeing Mia's work table, but that is nowhere close to redemption for all the hurt and trauma she had inflicted on Izzy.
The other reason why we would like to see season 2 is to see where Pearl and Mia end up next. The mother-daughter duo has come to an understanding now that there are no lies between them, but it would still be fascinating to see how Ryan, her father, and her biological mother react to her existence. The show ended with Pearl ringing the doorbell so what the future holds for her and her mother in terms of being a family, custody and more, is what we need to see in the second season.
If you are wondering what would happen to Elena and her family, we're not sure we're quite interested unless, of course, Elena's character sees a change for the better. We do not want more of the toxic upbringing that Elena, despite claiming to be a model mother, excelled at until now. Not to say that the actors who played the selfish Richardsons weren't good, in fact, there were so excellent, that they successfully instilled hatred in audiences.
'Little Fires Everywhere' can be streamed on Hulu.
