'Listen To Bernie' trends as ad calls on Sanders backers to vote for Biden, but Internet says 'won't vote Joe'

'If Donald Trump is re-elected, all progress we've made will be in jeopardy. The future of our Democracy is at stake. The future of our economy is at stake. We must elect Biden,' Sanders said

The hashtag "Listen To Bernie" became one of the top trends on Twitter after liberal political action committee Really American released a campaign ad, urging the supporters of far-left former Democratic Presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, to vote for a moderate nominee like Joe Biden if they did not want President Donald Trump to get reelected.

Among other things, the Vermont senator is heard saying, "If Donald Trump is re-elected, all the progress we've made will be in jeopardy. The future of our Democracy is at stake. The future of our economy is at stake. The future of our planet is at stake. We must come together to defeat Trump & elect Biden," in the ad which immediately went viral after it was posted by Really American. Various videos of social unrest, protests, coupled with unflattering clips of Trump and highlighted newspaper headlines made up the ad, with Sanders seen narrating in between.

Many people urged others to retweet and spread the word of the ad in order to influence them to vote for Biden come November if they wanted to save democracy. "If anything else, #ListentoBernie. This election is not left vs right but Democracy vs Tyranny," one wrote, while another said "I preferred Bernie to Biden. But, the primary didn't turn out the way I'd hoped. I did #ListenToBernie, and voted for Biden last Friday." A third commented, "Every clear thinking, lover of freedom should be voting for Biden. This country will not survive 4 more years of Trump" A fourth remarked, "At this point it’s not Blue vs red, the left vs the right, it’s about protecting a president that knew and let over 200K people die vs America" A fifth opined, "If all Progressives would #ListenToBernie and support Biden, we'd have an epic LANDLISDE to defeat trump, and ensure that all PROGRESS is not lost."

However, not everyone was on board with the ad. "The Biden campaign is rolling out these #ListenToBernie ads and I. Can't. Even. Do they seriously expect me to listen to a white man like Bernie who clearly hates women, black people, and who single handedly lead to Trump's victory in 2016? I'm sorry, but Biden just lost my vote," one said, while another wrote, "Instead of asking MILLIONS of progressives to #ListenToBernie, wouldnt it be more effective to get just ONE person, Joe Biden , to listen to millions of Americans who overwhelmingly want #M4A? In fact, isnt that how its supposed to work?"

Many of the Sanders supporters did not believe that a centrist like Biden would carry out the policies advocated by their first choice for president. "We loved Bernie because of his POLICIES which favored everyday people, the poor, & the vulnerable. Adopt his policies and you have our vote. It’s that simple. #ListenToBernie" one of them commented, while a second wrote, "It is PEAK neoliberal Resistance grifter to shit on @BernieSanders as a divisive radical angry socialist and then turn around and try to use him w/ #ListenToBernie to get @JoeBiden elected..." A third opined, "Centrists, the same people who for 5 years demeaned all of us Bernie supporters with endless stupid like 'Bernie isn't a Democrat' are now using the #ListenToBernie hashtag to try & get us on board. It was never about Bernie. It was about policy. And no, we won't vote Joe."

There were also a few Republicans in the mix who took the opportunity to poke fun at the liberals for launching the ad. "#listentobernie are liberals wishing we were the cult they thought we were," one wrote, while another said, "Biden just said, 'Let me make this clear. I beat the socialist' that, after his campaign said the unity task force was just to pacify the left, not to offer any real concessions. Dems could easily win by offering universal healthcare. But they don't. Shameful. #ListenToBernie"
