'Lethal Weapon': Murtaugh and Cole forced to fend for themselves in 'Dial M for Murtaugh'

If the end of the holiday season is getting you down, just remember that this means you get all new episodes of 'Lethal Weapon'. The buddy cop drama is coming back after a considerable hiatus and it looks like the show is finally ready to shift their focus back to Murtaugh's storyline.

If you have been watching season 3 religiously, you would have noticed that the show has talked quite a bit about Wesley Cole's story and has been consistently focusing on developing his story arc. We can't really blame them for doing so because, let's face it, it cannot be easy establishing a new lead in a matter of half a season. Both Seann William Scott (who plays Cole) and 'Lethal Weapon' deserve a pat on the back for it.

Episode 11 'Dial M for Murtaugh' follows Murtaugh as he decides to go on a family vacation. We can't remember the last time he and Trish along with Roger and Rianna decided to do a holiday together just to relax and bond better. On the show, Murtaugh has had a lot of issues communicating with his family so it does seem like a great idea for them to take this holiday. However, as usual, things go terribly wrong.

As he's enjoying his vacay, Murtaugh gets pulled back into work when he witnesses an alleged abduction. Murtaugh, being a seasoned cop will obviously decide to follow the trail. The official synopsis doesn't reveal much about the case but this won't be Murtaugh's first abduction case this season. Recently, Cole had been picked off by some cartel big bads and, before that, it was Leo Getz.

Back in LAPD, Cole is missing a partner. He is left to investigate a murder by himself and as he digs deeper he finds that the more he gets to know his case, the more it intersects with Murtaugh's. This entire season, we've seen Murtaugh and Cole fight side by side and use their combined strengths to solve crimes. It will definitely be interesting to see how Murtaugh fairs without Cole's expertise and how Cole does cop work without Murtaugh's experienced eyes.

So far, we 've seen Cole do crazy things while Murtaugh sits back and tries to go by the book. However, with this episode, there's a possibility that things might change. Since Murtaugh is out of the city, he will have to use his skills to bring the bad guys to justice and it's a situation we haven't seen him in a long time.

On the other hand, Cole's time in LAPD is getting even more complicated. We know he and Erica had quite a bit of sparks flying but then in 'There Will be Bud' Cole is seeing a girl called Julia. In episode 11, Erica's mum Senator Malick (guest star Anna Khaja) comes to town and stirs things up between Erica, Cole and the case at hand. This episode also features Nishi Munshi as Erica, Sean Blakemore as Barrett, Anna Khaja as Senator Malick, and Cliff Chamberlain as Stuart Steven

'Dial M for Murtaugh' airs on Tuesday, January 8 at 8:00 pm ET/PT on Fox.
