President Donald J. Trump has been targeted by hateful critics online after he revealed he had tested positive for COVID-19, with several left-wing never-Trumpers saying they "hope he dies" from the deadly virus. Meanwhile, several anti-Trump social media users mocked the commander-in-chief by suggesting he "try drinking bleach" - referring to when he "sarcastically" asked experts whether injecting patients disinfectant to treat the disease was a possibility, The Sun reported.

The 74-year-old former real estate mogul announced his diagnosis this morning, just hours after it emerged one of his top aides had tested positive for coronavirus. Some Trump haters branded the diagnosis the "first good news of 2020," with barely a month until Election Day.

"Quick! Someone get the President some bleach!!! #POTUShasCovid," one tweeted.

"TRUMP HAS COVID HAAHAH I HOPE HE DIES," another added. "I hope Trump’s diagnosis wakes his supporters up to the reality of the pandemic and also that it makes him suffer and die," verified user Michael Bonfiglio wrote. "We should be more concerned than we are if Donald Trump dies of COVID. For example, consider The Hague never getting their chance," social justice warrior Emily Gorcenski chimed in. "He tested positive on a full moon. Good job girlies. The crystals and sage doing something," another user wrote.

The US President had previously suggested injecting Covid patients with disinfectant to kill the virus - a comment which drew widespread criticism from medical professionals and from across the aisle. However, he later said he was being sarcastic with the "fake news media."

That said, actor Dominic West sparked backlash after revealing that he "jumped with joy" after hearing the news of Trump's diagnosis. "Well, I did slightly leap in the air with joy." 'The Affair' star, 50, told Good Morning Britain. "I just hope it doesn't interfere with him being elected out of office that's all."

Meanwhile, Duncan Jones, the son of David Bowie, shared, "How do germaphobic sociopaths tend to react to getting sick? If anyone with real psychological training has an answer, I’d be fascinated. If the universe already orbits their ego, what happens when they’re sick?"

"The fact that two most protected people in our country got COVID… like, they had every opportunity and resource needed to not get sick but science denial is a trip," 'Stranger Things' star Shannon Purser tweeted.

"Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19," the President tweeted this morning. "We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!"

The news came after one of Trump's closest advisers Hope Hicks tested positive for the virus Wednesday. That said, GMB host Piers Morgan lashed out at those mocking Trump's positive test, branding those who wished for his death as "despicable."

"Nobody’s been more critical of Trump over covid than me. But I don’t want him or his wife to die from it. Those who do are despicable," he tweeted. "Interesting to see those who’ve spent the last few years screaming that Trump’s an uncaring, heartless empathy-devoid b*stard now spewing their gleeful joy that he & his wife have a deadly virus. They’re no better than the man they loathe," he later added.
