British woman who was imprisoned in Egypt for carrying Tramadol tablets released after 14 months
Laura Plummer was arrested in October 2017 at Hurghada airport for carrying 290 Tramadol tablets, a controlled substance in Egypt
A British woman who spent the last 14 months in jail after she was apprehended with Tramadol tablets at an Egyptian airport and sentenced to three years, has been been granted an early release.
The 34-year-old store worker from Hull, Laura Plummer, was sentenced in December 2017 and sent to the infamous al-Qanater prison in Cairo after she was caught carrying 290 tablets of the opioid painkillers, which is considered a controlled substance in Egypt.
Plummer maintains that she carried the medicine for her Egyptian partner, Omar Caboo, who suffers from severe back pain, and said after her arrest at Hurghada airport in October, 2017, that she was not aware that it was illegal to carry the tablets into Egypt.
