Trust Netflix to nail it with impeccable timing. The streaming platform is all set to release another edition of its award-winning sports docuseries 'Last Chance U' in March. This time, however, there's a bit of a twist with the series focusing on community college basketball as opposed to high school football that it did over the last five seasons. East Los Angeles College Huskies (ELAC) will take the spotlight as they stake their claim to win the California state basketball championship.

The timing, as we said, could have never been better. With the NBA season coinciding, there's a lot more room for discussions and the series now joins the impressive docus that Netflix has rolled out over the last year that also include Michael Jordan's 'The Last Dance.'

Release Date

'Last Chance U: Basketball' releases on March 10, 2021, on Netflix.

Plot

The official synopsis of the eight-episode series reads: "From Greg Whiteley ('Cheer') and the team behind Emmy-winning 'Last Chance U', comes 'LAST CHANCE U: BASKETBALL', an honest, gritty look inside the world of community college basketball. Over the course of eight episodes, viewers will follow the East Los Angeles College Huskies (ELAC) in their high stakes chase to an unprecedented California state basketball championship."

"Led by passionate head coach John Mosley, the ELAC team is made up of former D1 recruits and powerhouse athletes hustling to prove themselves for the last chance to fulfill their dreams of playing at the next level. But the team is tested as the players battle adversity, inner demons, and emotions on and off the court.

Director

The series is directed by Greg Whiteley who previously helmed 'Cheer' — The six-part series that examined the nationally ranked forty-member Navarro College Bulldogs Cheer Team from Corsicana, Texas, as they prepared to compete in the National Cheerleading Championship held annually in Florida.

News

Ahead of the release of the fifth season, Whiteley has spoken about the possibility of exploring other sports. "With this series, we always wanted to give viewers a raw behind-the-scenes look at junior college athletics and we're excited to expand the LCU legacy onto the court with JUCO basketball," he said, according to Deadline.
