Who is Lawrence Artl III?
Lawrence Artl III has taught biology at the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts since 2007, according to his LinkedIn profile. A press release by the Clark County School District stated that an investigation was started in February 2020 and culminated with the CCSD police obtaining a warrant for his arrest last week, reported Las Vegas Review-Journal. The alleged victim told the investigators that Artl has been in her house on two separate occasions, and it was during his second visit she and the teacher had sex, according to court documents.
8NewsNow also reported that there were also other encounters, during which the student said she kissed the teacher in his car. Investigators said that Artl and the student initially used school email for communication but later started talking on Snapchat. After the investigation was launched, Artl allegedly told the girl to block him on Snapchat and 'delete everything.’ It was around the same time, that the student's grade 4 on a quiz was increased to grade 8 by Artl.
It is unclear as to what caused the alleged relationship to come to the limelight. Artl's attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during last week's hearing. A judge ordered the teacher to have no contact with minors who are not related to him. Artl was not present in the court. He is due in court for a preliminary hearing on September 23.
