Raiders vs Saints: Time for Drew Brees to retire? Fans certainly think so as they slam QB in New Orleans loss

It was an absolutely brilliant comeback from the Las Vegas Raiders to defeat the New Orleans Saints 34-23 after being down 0-10 in the first quarter on Monday. For the Raiders, it was their quarterback Derek Carr who rose to the challenge with three touchdowns, 282 yards, and zero interceptions that saw them notch up a second consecutive win. While at the other end, Saints QB Drew Brees had a forgettable day with 5/9 on passes 10+ yards downfield and 0/1 on passes 20+ yards downfield.

Needless to say, this had Saints fans fuming as they took to Twitter to express their anger and disappointment. "Last season Brees longest pass was 44 yards and it got intercepted. How the saints expected to win with Brees I don’t know? His arm is done they ain’t winning no god damn super bowl with him anymore simple," read one of the tweets. It was clear that Brees's average performance meant the team was taking a hit. "Awful loss. Flat performance from the Saints. Three players in particular were downright awful. Drew Brees Cam Jordan Malcolm Jenkins," opined one of the fans after the loss.

"I hate to say it but Drew Brees definitely showed his age tonight. From being one of the best at the deep ball to throwing 0 passes for more than 20 yards tonight. Something I hate to accept but it’s something I’ll have to. #Saints," a tweet read. And the thoughts went on. "Drew Brees the last few years was a top 5 QB early in the year and the 15th to 20th best after Thanksgiving. Right now he looks like a bottom 10 QB at best. That doesn't bode well for later in the year," one of the fans wrote. "Let’s be honest. Most good high school QB’s have better arm strength than Brees at this point. He’s a legend, but he’s a legend with a old slow arm," a fan remarked.

Brees looked jaded and all those who felt this was QB set for a Super Bowl, the man surely looked far from it as he put in a lot of air on throws. He missed targets where his receivers were open and adding to that was the fact he threw an interception that had Saints fans pulling their hair out. It wasn't just Brees as the defense played equally bad with seasoned campaigners, Malcolm Jenkins and Janoris Jenkins, failed to stop Carr's attacks.

"Brees can’t throw longer than 20 yards and he knows it. The play calls show it. It’s simple. He’s old," read one of the tweets soon after the game. For one of the fans, it was clear the writing was on the wall for Brees. "This is the last year we will ever see Drew Brees in an NFL uniform save this tweet enjoy it while you can," he commented.

Up next, the Saints will face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, September 27.
