LA Lakers: LeBron James bags fourth Finals MVP award, but fans say 'Michael Jordan is still the greatest'
That LeBron James was voted MVP after the Los Angeles Lakers win over Miami Heat in Game 6 to win their 17th NBA Championship was no surprise. With the Lakers notching up a stunning 106-93 win over the Heat, James, who won Finals MVP in 2012 and 2013 during his time with the Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers, is now the first player in NBA history to win the award with three different teams. It was his fourth Championship.
"I put myself, my body and my mind in a position to be available to my teammates," James said after the game. "I've never missed a playoff game in my career and the best thing you can do for your teammates is be available. And for me to be available to my teammates and put in the work, I just hope I make my guys proud and that's all that matters to me. I make my guys proud, make the fanbase proud, my family back home, I can't wait to get back home to them. Akron, Ohio we did it again. and that's what it's all about."
"Means a lot. It means a lot to rep this franchise," James added. "I told Jeannie [Buss] when I came here that I was going to put this franchise back in a position where it belongs. Her late, great father did it for so many years and she just took it on after that and for me to be a part of such a historical franchise is an unbelievable feeling, not only for myself but for my teammates, for the organization, for the coaches, for the trainers, everybody that's here."
Twitter, in the meantime, had mixed responses to James' MVP award and were involved in a major debate about who was better: LeBron or Michael Jordan. "LeShowboat will never be top 10 in my book! MJ Age 35 -MVP -Finals MVP -Champion -3peat complete LeMickey Mouse Age 35 -NOT MVP -NOT Finals MVP -Carried by AD, KCP, and Rondo -Mickey Mouse ring," wrote one of the fans.

With comparisons to Jordan imminent, there were a lot more in favor of him being the greatest. "He's up there... But Jordan is still the greatest. This is coming from a Knicks fan who's seasons he destroyed every year," a fan opined. To add to some trivia, with this win, he edges Magic Johnson, Tim Duncan, and Shaquille O'Neal to become second all-time in terms of MVP status in Finals, only behind Michael Jordan who has won it six times.

At the other end, there was still massive support for James. "Jimmy Butler finally play a good team and gets exposed for the overrated player he is. By the way, LeBron James is the classiest player in NBA history. He doesn’t need good playmakers and a good head coach to win games. Enjoy watching Jimmy Butler not win a championship this year," read one of the tweets.

Congratulations were in order from different teams' fans as well. "Congratulations to LeBron James on being named the 2020 NbA finals MVP. Congratulations to him on also now winning a NBA Title with 3 different teams. From a Celtics fan," read one of the tweets.

A James fan heaped praise on the star and wrote, "LeBron has faced far more adversity than Jordan. LeBron has played far greater opponents in the Finals than Jordan. Jordan was an overachiever who couldn't make varsity and wasn't the first overall pick in the draft. LeBron has been the man since he touched a basketball."
