NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Lacey Spears, a mom blogger, was found guilty of poisoning her 5-year-old son, and received a sentence of 20 years to life in prison. She extensively recorded her son Garnett-Paul Thompson Spears's battle with an unknown illness on social media. The child later died in a hospital.

The reason of his death was revealed to be high salt levels in his system, which had swollen his brain to the point of no return. However, authorities later discovered that Garnett's mother, Lacey was the one who poisoned him.

Where is Lacey Spears now?

Lacey is reportedly detained at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in Westchester County, New York. Her earliest potential release date, according to her inmate record, is June 2034, The Cinemaholic reported.

Lacey was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for torturing her son Garnett for attention. Prosecutors argued that Lacey had tortured her son for attention, leading to her being found guilty and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. The judge stated that Lacey's crime was "unfathomable in its cruelty".

However, the court did not impose the maximum punishment, noting that he wanted her to realise she has Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP) and come to grips with it. This is a mental disease in which a carer lies to or harms the child they are caring for in order to gain sympathy or attention.

'Mommy blogger'

When Lacey relocated to The Fellowship in Chestnut Ridge, New York, she told acquaintances that Garnett was the son of a police officer who had died in a car crash. But the truth was quite different. Chris Hill, a previous acquaintance of Lacey's, was Garnett's biological father, and he supposedly wanted to be a part of his son's life but wasn't allowed to. It soon became clear, Lacey had a history of lying.

She made up ailments, assumed other children were her own, and even forced Garnett to be hospitalised repeatedly from an early age. The single mother also used social media channels and a blog to publish updates on her son's health, earning her the moniker "mommy blogger."
