Is Kyle Rittenhouse on the run? The 18-tear old teenager who reportedly killed two people during the Kenosha protest last summer was arrested in his hometown of Antioch in August 2020 on charges of “first-degree intentional homicide”.

He was released from the Kenosha County Jail on a $2 million bond in November. The Kenosha County District Attorney’s office has now alleged that Rittenhouse has violated the conditions of his bond by failing to notify the court about his current address and the prosecutors are asking for an arrest warrant for the accused.

According to court documents, a notice for his hearing was returned to the sender without a forwarding address and it has made it harder for authorities to track his whereabouts. The motion passed by the court read, “After all, it is extremely unusual for a defendant facing a charge of First Degree Intentional Homicide in Kenosha County to post cash bond and be released from custody pending trial. Rarely does our community see accused murderers roaming about freely.”

Where is Kyle Rittenhouse now?

In the motion filed by District Attorney Thomas Binger, it has been stated that the clerk of the Circuit Court mailed a notice to the defendant at his previous address, which was given to the court, but the “notice was returned unclaimed on January 28, 2021". When the Kenosha police detective visited the defendant’s residence, they learned from the neighbors that he longer lived there.

However, Rittenhouse’s attorney John Pierce, who was a part of the defense team until mid-January, has objected to the motion citing “numerous death threats based on the events of August 25, 2020, in the city of Kenosha, Wisconsin” as the reason.

Mark Richards, Rittenhouse’s attorney, said, “While completing paperwork related to Kyle’s release, Attorney Pierce was directly informed by a high-ranking member of the Kenosha Police Department not to provide the address of the Rittenhouse Safe House because of the numerous threats made against Kyle and his family.”

Where is his ‘Safe House’?

Despite the motion by the DA to update Kyle’s current address, Pierce claimed that Rittenhouse “absolutely should not provide” the address of the Safe House on the form, but should provide his home address in Antioch, Illinois. His attorneys have maintained utmost confidentially surrounding his current address and for a long time refused to disclose it, according to CNN.

In November 2020, Rittenhouse’s attorney wrote in an email exchange with Kenosha County prosecutors, “Mr Rittenhouse will need to update the court on a change of address, because of security concerns, we would like to keep that information away from the general public. I wanted to know if you would agree to allow the filing of the change of address with the court under seal?"

However, Binger declined the request saying, “Unless you can provide me with a specific, tangible and imminent threat (or threats) that would justify secrecy in this case, I am not willing to agree to redact your client's address from the public record.” The motion has asked the court to issue an arrest warrant against Rittenhouse with an addition of $200,000 to his bond.
