Kirkland Warren: Washington ex-convict arrested after bodies of his missing ex-lover and her daughter, 7, found
VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON: A Washington-based man, Kirkland Warren, has been arrested in relation to the disappearance and eventual death of Meshay Melendez, 27, and her seven-year-old daughter Layla Stewart. According to police in Vancouver, Washington, the mother-daughter duo was last seen on Sunday morning, March 12. Authorities were alerted by one of Melendez's friends, claiming that she was spotted ‘unresponsive and naked from the waist down’ in the car of her ex-boyfriend.
Warren is held on the charges of tampering with a witness, violation of domestic violence orders, and unlawful possession of a firearm, in connection to the disappearance of the mother and daughter, as per a Vancouver police news release. The accused was arrested on Sunday, March 19, and records show that he was out on bail after being charged with a drive-by shooting, assault, and felony harassment. Furthermore, he is accused of firing a gun at Melendez's apartment earlier this month, reported The Columbian. Warren had pleaded not guilty to these charges.

'They were not life-sized mannequins'
On Wednesday, March 20, a 911 call was made to Clark County Sheriff’s Office to report a sighting of two ‘life-sized mannequins’ in a rural area in nearby Washougal, Washington, according to KPTV-TV. However, when police arrived at the scene, they found the bodies of a woman and a young girl. With help of genetic markings, the police traced the remains of Melendez and Layla, as per KATU-TV. An autopsy has been scheduled to ascertain the cause of death.
