'He has a complete disregard for human life'

"He was shooting at another person who pulled into the parking lot, from about 100 yards away, with a rifle and was just spraying bullets," Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix said, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Referring to Parks as a 'monster,' Dix said the suspect has a history of violence.

"He has a complete disregard for human life. He thinks nothing of it. He thinks nothing [of] pulling a trigger on a gun, just like he doesn’t think about breathing," the sheriff said. Parks was located weeks after the incident after officials spotted him in a vehicle on the street. Natasha Beckham, the woman who was driving the vehicle Parks was in when he was arrested, was charged with hindering the apprehension or punishment of a fugitive, Fox News reported.

'I saw all the blood'

Jones' father, Marcus Jones, had said in a previous interview that his heart was in pieces after his daughter's murder. "I’m like a ship with no sail now…it’s like I’m just drifting," Jones said, according to Fox 5. "I can’t even cry, I’m so mad."

He recalled that his 10-year-old daughter, Angel, was in bed with her sister when they heard the sound of gunfire inside the Northside Hills Apartment complex. Recalling the horrifying night, Angel said, "My mom wanted us to crawl to her, and then Asijah didn’t come...I looked at Asijah, and then we woke her up, and she started screaming. He turned her around, and I saw all the blood…it was everywhere."

A GoFundMe was set up for Jones after her murder. "My family and I are raising funds to celebrate the life of our sweet Asijah. Asijah was suddenly taken away from us early Tuesday morning, just one month before her 12th birthday. She was involved in a horrific tragedy when she was struck by a stray bullet as she slept in her bed. Asijah was such a loving and talented little girl with big dreams and a funny personality. Words can not describe the pain our family is enduring right now. We are asking anyone able to please make any contribution to this fund to not only assist with homegoing services for Asijah but also to provide a little support for her mother Cyntrell and Asijah's 2 other siblings, during this trying time. We appreciate all the love and condolences and would like to thank you in advance as we grieve the loss of Asijah Love Jones," the page reads. At the time this article was written, $12,523 USD had been raised of the $15,000 goal.
