Goodbye Kinfolk! NY nightclub shuts down due to piling costs amid Covid-19, Internet says 'this s**t hurts deep'

It’s soon going to be half a year since the pandemic outbreak and going back to leading normal life seems like a far way dream. People across the world have been cooped up in their homes for months while refraining from all kinds of social activities. As the global economy is hard-hit by the ongoing health crisis, many successful establishments have had to give up their businesses. 

New York nightclub Kinfolk, which served for 12 years, is shutting down owing to piling production costs from extended lockdown and restriction on social activities. The nightclub shared a farewell note with its beloved customers, family, and everybody who has had an opportunity to be a part of Kinfolk. 

It reads, “It’s with great sadness we share the news that Kinfolk will not be returning & is closing its doors permanently. This is not a decision that has not been made lightly. Unfortunately, the reality of the extended shut down and piling up operational costs has essentially forced the decision to be made for us. We are heartbroken and did not want this to be the way we said goodbye.”

In the rest of the note, Kinfolk has recollected its time on the corner of N11th & Wythe Ave. “We could not be more proud of the talent who shared their passions with us. Finally, we could not be more proud of the community that built us, sustained u, and made it feel like, for better or worse, HOME.” Towards the end, they also beautifully noted, “We can only hope the energy created in our spaces will inspire and help grow the next scene, sparking a future of an ever-changing New York still built on expression, acceptance & freedom to be yourself.”

The news regarding Kinfold shutting down for good has come across as a shock to many. Responding to the farewell note, one Twitter user wrote, “Thats #5 that i know of. S**t is really sad and depressing. What’s even worse is that clubs won’t be opening until next summer and that’s a strong maybe so those numbers will increase. A lot of us worked so hard also man”. Another added, “This s**t hurts deep. I’ve had moments in there. lived songs in kinfolk. that space held so much amazing energy, black energy.”
