Khachaturyan sisters who stabbed 'controlling pedophile father' to death while he slept dodge murder charges
In a dramatic turn of events, Russian prosecutors have dropped murder charges against three teenage sisters who killed their "rapist" father while he slept.
Krestina, Angelina and Maria Khachaturyan claimed they suffered years of 'torture and sexual abuse' from their 'controlling pedophile father' Mikhail Khachaturyan, 57. At the time of the killing in July 2018, they were aged 19, 18, and 17 respectively, per Daily Mail.
The sisters' lawyer Alexei Parshin revealed that Russia's Prosecutor General's office has now ordered the case to be reclassified as 'self-defense' after a public outcry that saw more than 350,000 people sign a petition demanding they should not face murder charges.
The change -- which means the sisters no longer face the threat of jail -- was made in a statement from deputy General Prosecutor of Russia Viktor Grin.
The girls claimed they suffered years of harrowing sexual, physical, and emotional abuse after confessing to jointly killing their 57-year-old father, according to law enforcement. “We hated him and we wanted just one thing to happen – either that he disappeared or that we never knew him," Krestina told authorities. “We wanted him just to go away and never come back.”
The trio has admitted that Khachaturyan was sedated and sitting in an armchair when they killed him with his hunting knife and a hammer.
The incident occured in Moscow near the Altufievskoe highway. Although the man tried to escape the apartment, he was attacked once again and killed near the elevator of the building. It is being said that the father threw his son out of the home, who is currently studying at Moscow University. According to friends and neighbors, the mother had left Mikhail due to his tyrannical abuse. One of the sisters said at the time Khachaturyan often forced her to give him oral sex.
Mikhail was alleged to have been "constantly abusing" his daughters, according to a friend who spoke to online news outlet Mash on condition of anonymity.
“Would you have done in a different way if you were in their shoes? When all your life is a long nightmare, full of constant traumas, physical and mental. The girls were all covered in bruises and scratches, but Mikhail was not a fool, he hit them in a way their bruises were hidden under the clothes," they said, adding that he was "constantly seducing them."
Another incident occurred when Sergei, their brother, had brought a male friend along when he came to visit his sisters.
Khachaturyan was somehow convinced that his daughters had engaged in sexual intercourse with the friend.
“So you did it all together with him, all three of you?” he shouted at them.
“You will suck all the time if you don’t go away. And if you go away, I will find you, you whores," Mikhail was recorded on tape threatening his daughters. “All of you are whores, and you will die as whores. If you just take a risk… your mother did not take a risk. I will f*** you, and you will regret it. You won’t have time to regret. I will beat you for all, I will kill you. Go away, go away, don’t push me to sin."
The 57-year-old often disallowed them from going to school, according to the sisters.
“Once the father found the dog hair on the carpet," said one family friend, Elena. “He called one of the daughters, made her brush the dog and eat its hair, while he watched.”
According to reports, when he was away on business, Mikhail put an online camera in the apartment to spy on his daughters.
Authorities reportedly found two kilograms of heroin along with an arsenal of a smooth bore rifle, three pneumatic handguns, a signal gun, a gas gun, and a pneumatic rifle in Mikhail's Audi Q7.
