Kevin Hart lauds the 'power' of George Floyd protests spreading to all 50 US states: 'It's time for a change'
Kevin Hart has commended the nationwide protests happening in the US after the May 25 death of George Floyd. The 46-year-old Floyd died last week while in police custody as an officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes. Hart shared a screenshot of a newscast showing that the demonstrations against racism and police brutality had spread to all 50 states of the country. The 40-year-old wrote in the caption of the Instagram post: “This is POWER.....Enough is Enough. It’s time for a change....”
Hart’s latest post came a few days after he shared a post calling for change while sharing a photo of him along with his two and a half-year-old son Kenzo Kash on the social media platform. The comedian wrote: “As a father, I’m worried about the future of our next generation of black men & the generations after that & the ones after that. If we do not do our job right now & do what we can to have a law put in place to help us feel protected in these streets then this type of crime will continue to happen without a worry in the world.”
Continuing further he added in the post, “A law needs to be put in place that will make these officers accountable as well as the other officers who are present at the scene of the crime. This needs to happen...This shouldn’t even be a discussion it should be an immediate ACTION!!!!! We need all of you governors & mayors to step up and do the right thing. I don’t know how to go about this but I promise you that I will try my best to figure it out.....ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!”
“We deserve the right to feel safe. A law like this will give us a level of comfort. The consequences of such ridiculous acts should be immediate and known by all. 20yrs in prison or life in prison....it has to be something....the other officers present that don’t stop or prevent these acts should get time as well...SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE IN THE SYSTEM NOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!! Point blank... Enough is Enough!” Hart concluded.
The artist also recently encouraged his fans and followers to vote for a ‘change’. His Instagram post included the name of the places that were having their primaries on Tuesday, June 2. In the caption, Hart wrote: “The Change starts with our VOTE!!!!”
Meanwhile, other reports claimed that several celebrities, like Rihanna, Barack Obama, and Kandi Burruss have also urged their followers to enact change by voting. “VOTE. Ya ain’t got sh** else to do man! Get yo ass off the couch and go vote!!! I don’t wanna hear another excuse!! Stop believing that your vote and voice don’t matter! This the illest way to protest...vote for the change you want!!!” Rihanna wrote in the social media post.
“I have to remind y’all to VOTE today! DC, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, & South Dakota today is voting day for you. Please go vote! If I’m missing a state that also has a voting day today please comment below,” said Kandi Burruss.
While in the late hours of June 1, former President Obama shared a video of George Floyd’s brother, Terrence Floyd, giving a speech at the site of George’s death. Obama quoted a line from the speech as he wrote: “Let’s do this another. Let’s stop thinking our voices don’t matter and vote. Not just for the president...educate yourself and know who you’re voting for. And that’s how we’re going to hit ’em.”
