WINCHESTER, KENTUCKY: A 28-year-old mother arrested over the weekend for drunk driving with her toddler in the back of her car was found snorting a white substance at the back of the police car.

Kathryn Ahlers was charged with public intoxication, endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence after the Winchester police arrested her after receiving reports about two intoxicated people who were about to operate a vehicle on August 3.

The second individual accompanying Ahlers was identified as her boyfriend.

When the police initially approached her vehicle, the accused moved unsteadily while she tried to unsuccessfully brace herself against the car's middle support beam. Then, she scrambled to remove her 17-month-old son from a car seat that was improperly fastened. The toddler was secured to the vehicle with the car seat belt, USA Today reported.

According to the police report, the child's diaper was saturated with urine and was in need of changing and there was no baby food in the vehicle.

Ahlers told the police that she and her boyfriend were making their way from Lexington to Cincinnati when they got lost on the way.

The authorities handcuffed her and placed her at the back of the police cruiser after placing her under arrest. It was unclear whether her unidentified boyfriend was also detained.

While sitting in the back of the patrol car, Ahlers, despite being handcuffed, somehow managed to extract "a clear plastic baggie from her vagina cavity” and “dumped some white substance on the seat," the report said. She then “began to inhale it through her nose."

She was said to have pulled out the bag from between her legs. It was unclear at what point she was caught in the act by the officers.

While being removed from the cruiser, the 28-year-old mother tried to hide the bag of the white substance, classified by the police as "cocaine other," from the authorities. However, the police said that she may face additional charges if they discovered the substance on her in Jail.

Ahlers was transported to the Clark County Detention Center and formally booked. She is being held on a $2,500 bond.
