TUSCON, ARIZONA: The founder of the NXIVM cult, Keith Raniere, seems dissatisfied with his existence in prison in one way or another. Raniere, who received a 120-year prison sentence, said in a handwritten letter from behind bars that a billionaire media tycoon had threatened to have him jailed and killed.

Raniere, who was accused of a number of offenses, including sex trafficking, also claims he has been held in solitary confinement for more than seven months with a violent hermaphrodite cellmate who made threats to kill sex offenders. The 62-year-old sex trafficker is presently serving a 120-year term in a high-security facility in Tucson for offenses involving extortion, wire fraud conspiracy, forced labor, and racketeering, with sexual exploitation as a primary offense. Raniere, who was found guilty in June 2019, was given a sentence of more than life in prison by Judge Nicholas G Garaufis in October 2020 at the federal court in Brooklyn, New York City.

'He’s misunderstood': Allison Mack's ex-spouse Nicki Clyne calls Nxivm leader Keith Raniere 'kind'

Raniere stated, "A billionaire media mogul from Mexico, who is well-known to me (whose daughter was a leader in my organization), vowed to spend and do whatever was necessary to put me in prison for the rest of my life – and likely have me killed. Here I am," according to a handwritten note provided to The Sun.

'The sad answer is: planned harm'

Raniere, who is a cult leader and a convicted sex offender, has also complained about his purported abuse by the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and USP Tucson, Arizona, where he alleges he was placed with Toni Fly, a "dangerous" intersex inmate who has threatened to kill sex offenders.

Raniere asserted that the facility had "set" him up and put him in danger of "planned harm"; he even compared himself to infamous mobster Whitey Bulger, who was murdered in jail in 2018 by several prisoners using a shiv and a padlock wrapped in a sock as weapons. He wrote, "Examine my current cell-mate placement: Toni Fly is a known hermaphrodite."

Toni Fly was convicted of abusing a girl since she was at elementary school and fathering a child with her, reported Metro. Fly has earlier demanded to be moved to a women’s prison as well.

In the letter, Raniere stated, "She has filed 75 PREA [Prison Rape Elimination Act] complaints against other inmates and also many against staff. BOP claims she is very violent and mentally unstable. BOP records will show she has threatened to kill any sex offender cell-mate with whom she is celled. I am convicted as a sex offender. I am also said to be a sex cult leader and a threat to women."

Rainere added, "Why would USP Tucson house a violent, 75+ PREA, vulnerable to rape, vowed to kill sex- offenders, with me, an alleged sex offender, cult leader, and abuser of vulnerable women? Why was Whitey Bulger sent to an active yard? The sad answer is: planned harm."

"Another point of note: my cell-mate is the only known USP Tucson inmate with female genitalia (as reported by both BOP reports and inmates). Imagine having that in an institution with many, many male rapists and sex offenders," Rainere concluded.

What is the current scenario of Keith Raniere case?

Raniere is currently attempting to appeal his conviction on the grounds that child pornography evidence was planted on his computer. His attorneys contend that the alleged mistreatment Raniere has endured is part of a larger effort by the authorities to prevent him from being able to defend himself in court.

Raniere has also submitted a four-page affidavit to oppose his intended transfer to Guantanamo North, one of the two CMUs operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and housing some of the nation's most vicious criminals and terrorists. "Shipping me from USP Tucson, away from my attorneys, in a physically painful, potentially torturous process, into another potentially more dangerous environment foreign to me, is what is traditionally done by B.O.P. to silence and/or punish inmates. Please do not let me be silenced or shipped," he stated.
