WASHINGTON, DC: White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was mocked by netizens when she quipped during a press conference that "80 is the new 40" when addressing questions about President Joe Biden's 2024 reelection bid.

Her remark added a touch of levity to the ongoing discussion about President Biden's political future, especially in light of his potential candidacy in the forthcoming 2024 election, as per Daily Mail.

The press conference was held to highlight several of President Joe Biden's accomplishments, underscoring the significance of his legislative achievements.

Karine Jean-Pierre pointed to landmark achievements such as the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the Inflation Reduction Act, which featured substantial climate change initiatives and a reduction in prescription drug costs for Medicare users.

What did Karine Jean-Pierre say about Joe Biden's age controversy?

When asked about President Joe Biden's age, Karine Jean-Pierre responded, "I get asked this question about once a week, I don't know, I lose track."

She added, "This is a president, if you think about it - in 2019, he got the same criticism, in 2020, he got the same criticism, in 2022, he got the same criticism. And every time he beats the naysayers."



 

"You look at his record, you look at how he's been able to bring both sides together, to get some really important things done. That matters," continued the White House press secretary.

She pointed to the historic 80 million votes that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris received in the 2020 election, surpassing "any other ticket in history."

Subsequently, she addressed the significance of Biden's age as an issue, despite his remarkable legislative accomplishments, saying, "You know, I get - I get the question on age, certainly we all do. But what we're going to continue to talk about is the record that this president has had, it's been a historic record."

Jean-Pierre expressed, "You know, I can't speak to every American out there and their concerns."

"What I can speak to is what this president has done, right? I can speak to his experience, I can speak to the wisdom that he has, I can speak to his record. When it comes to how Americans - what they're saying about your particular question to me - that's for them to speak to," added the White House press secretary.

Internet users did not hold back when Karine Jean-Pierre's "80 is the new 40" joke about President Joe Biden was posted on X (formerly Twitter).

One user said, "Interesting that means 40 is now the new born baby."

Another mocked, "In Biden's case, 80 is the new 120," with one stating, "I feel safer now."
