SAN CLEMENTE, CALIFORNIA: On Tuesday, August 25, Adam Abdul-Jabbar of San Clemente was charged with three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, as well as a felony count of carrying a dirk or dagger, and three enhancements of inflicting great bodily injury over his alleged role in an incident. Adam is the son of Laker’s legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the incident reportedly is from June when Adam allegedly stabbed a neighbor during an argument over trash cans.

According to reports, Adam faces ten years in prison. On June 12, 28-year-old Adam was arrested by San Clemente police. He was released the same day after posting $25,000 bail. According to authorities, deputies responded about 10 p.m. on June 9 to a call of a stabbing in the 300 block of Calle Guaymas.

The victim, Ray Winsor, reportedly transported himself to a hospital with multiple injuries that were not life-threatening. Some reports, however, claim that his wife drove him to the hospital. Winsor told the media that he was lucky to be alive after being stabbed seven times. The knife even punctured his head. Winsor said the confrontation started over trash cans, an ongoing issue between the two for the last couple of years.

"I sort of got on him because the lady who takes care of him is 83-year-old, he doesn't do anything for her and it just bums me out, she's in a walker taking her trash cans down," he said. Winsor says Adam went into his home but then came back out, telling him that he was going to stick a knife through his teeth. After he started to walk away, Winsor said he felt punching, but then noticed he had been stabbed.

“One punch and it knocked off his glasses, I think it knocked the knife out of his hand, I'm not sure because it was dark out there,” he said. Winsor reportedly suffered a fractured skull and brain bleed, according to the DA’s office.

According to TMZ, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said Tuesday, “A dispute between neighbors should never escalate to violence, much less the ruthless nature of this attack. Violence of any kind will not be tolerated in Orange County and those who choose to inflict violence on others will be prosecuted by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office to the fullest extent of the law.”

Adam is set to be arraigned in court next month on September 9, as per reports.

73-year-old Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is best known for his 20 seasons in the National Basketball Association, during which he played for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. During his career as a center, Abdul-Jabbar was a record six-time NBA Most Valuable Player, a record 19-time NBA All-Star, a 15-time All-NBA selection, and an 11-time NBA All-Defensive Team member.

On June 28, 1989, Kareem announced that he would retire at the end of the season after 20 years in the NBA. At the time of his retirement, he held the record for most games played by a single player in the NBA.
