Kanye West 'Emmanuel': Release date, concept, tracklist and all about rapper's surprise Christmas EP with Sunday Service Choir
To make 2020 Christmas more special for his fans, Kanye West dropped a surprise EP called ‘Emmanuel'. The new Sunday Service Choir EP is inspired by ancient and Latin music and comes exactly a year after he dropped ‘Jesus Is Born’ on December 25, 2019. It was the debut studio album by American gospel group Sunday Service Choir, led by Kanye.
The 43-year-old multiple award-winning artist had dropped his full-length solo project with ‘Jesus Is King’ in October 2019 and there have also been reports of his 10th studio album apparently titled ‘Donda’ hitting the internet in 2021. Speaking of songs, the ‘College Dropout’ hitmaker also dropped a few singles this year including ‘Wash Us in the Blood’ with Travis Scott, ‘Donda’ and ‘Nah Nah'. Apart from his music, Kanye also stood in the 2020 Presidential elections and stayed busy for the same in the second-half of the year. Concept
The five-track ‘Emmanuel’ EP is written and executively produced by Kanye. According to press materials, as reported by Pitchfork, Emmanuel means “God is with us” and the EP was released on Christmas in “celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ".
Emmanuel means “God is with us". It is a name which is conferred upon Jesus in Isaiah 7:14: “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive in the womb, and shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel…” Kanye West’s Sunday Service events began in early 2019 when he began hosting semi-regular Sunday gatherings featuring music. The first public Sunday Service performance happened at Coachella on Easter Sunday, 2019.
