#JusticeForVanessaGuillen: Army identifies missing soldier's remains, Angry Internet says 'shut down Fort Hood'
The tragic death of US soldier Vanessa Guillen caught the attention of the entire nation and the rest of the world as people came forward demanding justice. The 20-year-old was reported missing by her family on April 22 and on Sunday, July 5, they told the Washington Post that the army investigators have positively identified the remains of Vanessa’s body, two months after she disappeared. She was reportedly bludgeoned to death with a hammer. While one suspect Aaron David Robinson, who served in the same station as Guillen, killed himself when he was approached by the officers during the manhunt, another suspect, Cecily Anne Aguilar, charged with evidence tampering, is being held in custody, according to the reports. Guillen’s family also revealed that the female soldier was being subjected to sexual harassment during her time in the army.
Many were left devastated to learn that the army had positively identified the remains as Guillen’s. Soon, Twitter users started trending #JusticeForVanessaGuillen expressing their grievance over Guillen’s death and demanding action against all those who were involved in her death. Internet users are urging the government to identify and arrest the convicts, as only that would bring justice to late Guillen. One user wrote, “Can we recognize and agree on the fact that a soldier was MURDERED ON THE LARGEST ACTIVE DUTY ARMY BASE IN THE US and they wanna act like NO ONE knew something? This is a f**king cover up arrest them all and shutdown Ft. Hood#JUSTICEFORVANNESSAGUILLEN.”
“#JUSTICEFORVANNESSAGUILLEN WHY THE F**K IS THIS TAKING SO LONG HOLD FORT HOOD ACCOUNTABLE!” asked another furious internet user. A significant number of people on Twitter have noted that both the army and the system have failed to serve justice to Guillen. “R.I.P Vanessa Guillen. My heart is broken. The system failed you and Fort Hood NEEDS TO PAY! EVERYONE DAM PERSON!” tweeted one. Users have also started trending #SHUTDOWNFORTHOODBASE, criticizing Fort Hood for its latest statement, which reads, “Please understand that it’s a difficult time for the Guillen family and the Army family here at Fort Hood,” Maj Gen Scott Efflandt said at a press conference July 2. “I ask that you join me in keeping the Guillen family in your thoughts and prayers.”
One angry user responded to this by tweeting, “A difficult time for FORT HOOD!? STFU! YOU FAILED TO PROTECT HER! WE DEMAND THAT ALL OF YOU PAY UP! WE ARE GONNA HELP VANESSA'S MOTHERS AND WE ARE GONNA MAKE THOSE WORDS COME TRUE AND THAT'S #SHUTDOWNFORTHOODBASE ! #JUSTICEFORVANNESSAGUILLEN.”
