Joshua Barrick: Louisville mass shooting victim, 40, was a dedicated banker and devoted family man
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY: In a mass shooting incident, a gunman shot and killed five bank employees, while injuring nine others on Monday, April 10, according to Louisville police. Connor Sturgeon who was an ex-employee at Old National Bank, stormed in at 8:30 am, half an hour before the branch opened to the public, and shot dead five of his former colleagues. The encounter was apparently being live-streamed on social media by the 23-year-old.
Sturgeon was also killed at the scene, although it is unclear whether he was shot by police or took his own life. This tragic incident is the latest in a series of mass shootings that have occurred in the United States.

Joshua Barrick
Joshua Barrick, a senior vice president at Old National Bank, was among the five victims who were killed. According to his LinkedIn profile, Barrick earned his bachelor's degree in business administration in May 2005. He worked in the banking industry in Cincinnati for over eight years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and then as a vice president and underwriter at PNC Bank.
Barrick started working in Louisville in 2013. Prior to his banking career, he interned for Castellini Management Co in Cincinnati from December 2003 to May 2005. Barrick, 40, was the Senior Vice President of Commercial Real Estate Banking at Old National, a position he had held for less than a year.
Barrick had been working in the banking sector for almost 20 years, including a similar role at WesBanco before joining Old National in August 2022. In 2020, he was recognized as one of Louisville Business First's 20 People to Know in Banking. Barrick graduated from Trinity High School in Louisville before obtaining his bachelor's degree from Xavier University.
Joshua Barrick was married with two children
According to his church, Holy Trinity, he was also married and the father of two kids. Rev Fr Shayne Duvall, the church's pastor, wrote on Facebook, "Even in this season of Easter, joy and hope, sadness and darkness find their way into our lives. With a sad and heavy heart, I inform you of the death of one of our beloved parishioners, Josh Barrick. Josh was one of the many victims who died in the tragic mass shooting this morning at the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville. Our hearts are heavy, they are broken, and we are searching for answers." He added, "Please keep the entire Barrick family in your prayers, including his wife, Jessica, and their two sweet children, who are students in our school."
The other victims killed alongside Barrick were: James 'Jim' Tutt, 64; Juliana Farmer, 57; Tommy Elliott, 63 and Deana Eckert, 57.
