MATAMOROS, MEXICO: Four US citizens were assaulted and kidnapped in northern Mexico and two of them, Zindell Brown and Shaeed Woodard, were shot dead. Meanwhile, the other two victims, Latavia 'Tay' McGee and Eric Williams, survived the attack. However, Williams was shot three times in his left leg.
Jose Guadalupe, 24, was arrested in the case as he was said to have guarded the house where cartel members held their victims captive. Tamaulipas Governor Americo Villarreal said, “Of the four, two of them are dead, one person is wounded, and the other is alive, and right now, the ambulances and the rest of the security personnel are going for them to give the corresponding support." Autopsies will be performed on the two deceased victims.

All involved were arrested." Meanwhile, Attorney General Merrick B Garland stated, "Last Friday, four Americans were attacked in Matamoros, Mexico. In the wake of the attack, the FBI immediately contacted our Mexican law enforcement and security partners in an effort to locate the victims. The FBI has confirmed that two of the Americans were killed and another injured. The two surviving Americans are now receiving medical treatment in the United States. I want to offer my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of this heinous attack. The Justice Department will be relentless in pursuing justice on their behalf. We will do everything in our power to identify, find, and hold accountable the individuals responsible for this attack on American citizens.”
Why did the four citizens travel to Mexico?
The four individuals traveled to Northern Mexico in a white van. The purpose of the travel was to get a tummy tuck, cosmetic surgery for McGee. As per the statement from US Embassy in Mexico, it is stated, "Shortly after crossing into Mexico, unidentified gunmen shot the passengers of the vehicle," according to a statement from the US Embassy in Mexico. The gunmen herded the four US citizens into another vehicle and fled. The investigators believe that the unfortunate incident could be due to a possible misunderstanding as the kidnappers may have believed the Americans to be from a rival group of human traffickers.
