Can Harry keep up with 'very bright' Meghan Markle? Celebrity agent says 'he's got to find his own name and identity'

After Prince Harry revealed that he has landed his first job as a chief impact officer with mental health venture 'BetterUp', celebrity agent Jonathan Shalit reportedly remarked that Harry was 'trying to keep up' with a 'very bright' Meghan Markle. Shalit, who knows Meghan Markle after having met with her multiple times, described the Duchess of Sussex as a "hugely astute woman, very bright, incredibly impressive."

The British talent manager spoke to The Telegraph about Harry's new role in the corporate professional domain. "He doesn't need celebrity. When you're Royal, you're the biggest celebrity in the world. But what this does is allow Harry to have relevance," Shalit said, adding, "So for Harry to keep up with his wife, he's got to find his own name and identity and this is the start."

Who is Jonathan Shalit?

Born on April 17, 1962, Jonathan Sigmund Shalit OBE is a talent manager from Britain. He is also well-known as the chairman of ROAR Global and Cole Kitchenn. The OBE honor was bestowed on him in 2014 for his services to the entertainment industry. He also earned an honorary professorship in 2012 from Henley Business School at Reading University. Shalit is recognized for working with top celebrities like Sir Elton John, Jon Bon Jovi, Dame Joan Collins, Mel B, Cher, Jim Carrey, Rebecca Ferguson, Sir George Martin, Sting, Simon Cowell among many others. He also worked with the winners of ITV's popular program 'Britain's Got Talent'. He is an alumnus of the City of London School.

Shalit was instrumental in the making of Larry Adler's album of George and Ira Gershwin songs - 'The Glory of Gershwin' that released in 1994. He has also made appearances in TV shows like 'No Talent Required', 'Most Shocking Celebrity Moments of the 21st Century', and 'Most Shocking Talent Show Moments'. In 2014 he produced the film 'Pudsey the Dog: The Movie', followed by producing the movie 'The Time of Their Lives' in 2017. 

'So Harry is dumb and Megan smart'

Some Twitter users have rejected Shalit's claims and expressed their doubts about whether he had actually met Meghan or Harry. 

"One question: Has Jonathan Shalit ever met Meghan or Harry?" asked one user, later adding, "Being in the biz doesn’t provide him with any insight into Harry’s career choices." Another remarked, "Lol! So Harry is dumb and Megan smart!"

One user even equated Shalit, Mark Borkowski and The Telegraph journalist Camilla Tominey with Piers Morgan, the controversial talk show host who face backlash for his problematic comments about Meghan Markle. "You and the likes of Piers Morgan drove Harry and Meghan away with hate speech. Leave them alone!" the user wrote. 

Prince Harry's new executive role at the startup 'BetterUp' will focus on driving advocacy and awareness for mental fitness while also guiding BetterUp’s mission, and expanding the community for the brand.
