Jon Voight, an ardent Trump supporter, has said that the president and Vice President Mike Pence were doing a "tremendous" job of handling the coronavirus pandemic currently wreaking havoc in the United States. "Listen, the President and the Administration are doing a wonderful job," the 'Anaconda' actor told Too Fab while enjoying a night out in Los Angeles.

"We are very fortunate to be in this country and be taken care of as we are. We have wonderful medical people around our Vice President, who are really doing a tremendous job."

The father of Angelina Jolie further added that he did not believe the coronavirus will be as bad as the seasonal flu.

"Now, the coronavirus will take its toll, whatever it is," Voight said. "But it won't be the toll of the flu. Most of the people who get this coronavirus will get a minor response from it because the people who are at risk have certain lung problems or diabetes or different kinds of things; if they get it they're going to be in more danger."

Nevertheless, while Voight did not believe that one needed to halt their daily lives because of this virus, he agreed that people should take some precautionary measures when it comes to ensuring that they are doing their bit in curbing the spread of the virus.

"But anyway, we shouldn't go crazy," he added. "We should take precautions and do all the things that are recommended to us to do, and not be foolish. But we should also live our lives."

The actor's comments came in the midst of Trump and Pence's coronavirus response being widely criticized. The POTUS went from saying that the situation surrounding the virus outbreak was "totally under control" and that it was just "one person coming in from China" to advising against the social gathering of more than 10 persons at any time or place and that the fallout could last throughout the summer — all in the space of seven weeks.

According to a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll, an increasing number of people in the US are no longer trusting the federal government to provide them with accurate information to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Only 37% of Americans said that they trusted the information they received regarding the virus directly from the president, while 60% said that they either had little or no trust at all in what he was saying.

At the same time, while 61% of the people thought that the federal government is doing enough to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in February, the same number was presently down to 46%.

84% of the people who participated in the poll said that they placed the highest amount of trust in public health officials when it came to receiving correct information about coronavirus, followed by the state and local leaders (72%). As for the information coming from media outlets, 50% to 47% of the people were split on whether it was trustworthy.
