Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are currently embroiled in a very dramatic legal battle triggered by a 2018 op-ed written by Heard in which she claimed she was a domestic violence survivor. The so-called 'blockbuster' trial that apparently will see the two actors’ best performances of their life began last Monday, April 11.

As per reports, Depp's sister Christi Dembrowski testified as the first witness in the multi-million dollar defamation trial against the ‘Aquaman’ actress and accused her of calling her brother "old and fat”. She also made several ugly allegations, which made both parties angry, frustrated as well as uncomfortable.

However, Depp was also seen smiling proudly for just a moment. As per reports, when one of the lawyers began questioning Dembrowski and asked her, “When was the first ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie released?” She replied, “I think it was in 2003.” When she was questioned, “What was your brother’s role in the movie?” Dembrowski added: “He was Captain Jack Sparrow.” That was apparently when the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ star’s face changed and he was caught fixing his glasses, smiling and pulling his long hair back. He looked like he was proud of his work in the film.

Depp’s pleased smile went viral on the internet with people reacting to it. One Twitter user gushed: "His smile when "Jack Sparrow" is said," to which a Depp fan replied, "This warms my heart and makes me sad at the same time. Disney must redeem themselves and have Johnny return to POFTC."

Several fans also tweeted in Spanish about the moment (translated here into English). “This is the best video I've ever seen of Johnny Depp during the case with Amber Heard.” The second one said, “That in the movies they always forget about "Captain" and they just call him Jack Sparrow and the character corrects them, it's a very recurring gag, it must have come to his head and he found it funny.”

One of his fans tweeted: "yes, he still is and will always be our captain jack sparrow." Another fan remarked: "This man is so humble and kind. I support #JohnnyDepp 100%! AH will not destroy him…we all know the truth.❤️"

"Can you see how much joy that character brought to him? Just by mentioning Captain Jack his face lights up with happiness, just as mine does too," a user noted while the second user insisted: "He will always be Captain Jack SPARROW for life 😍❤️👍🙏."

A person reacting to the video shared: “How cute...☺️, thanks to that movie I met Johnny and started watching his other movies from that time. I'm not a fan, but I admire him.” A user mocking Heard wrote: “We are not asking you to play a better role than Jack Sparrow, match it if you have talent Amber, match it.”

“It has nothing to do with the trial but Pirates of the Caribbean is rubbish without Johnny Depp,” a tweet read. Another tweet stated: “Johnny Depp's subtle smile is the best thing about this video.”

Meanwhile, through this latest legal battle in a Virginia court, Depp is demanding $50 million from Heard for 'defamation'. In her essay, titled ‘I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change’, for The Washington Post, she wrote: “Like many women, I had been harassed and sexually assaulted by the time I was of college age. But I kept quiet — I did not expect filing complaints to bring justice. And I didn’t see myself as a victim. Then two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.”

Though the 35-year-old star did not name Depp in the piece, his attorneys alleged that her op-ed was a “clear implication that Mr Depp is a domestic abuser.” They then sued her in 2019 and in response Heard countersued him for $100 million in 2020. As the trial commenced on April 11, a source familiar to Heard and her legal team said, “He threatened to ruin her career and inflict global humiliation upon her, and after losing in the UK, this is his last gasp attempt. A jury verdict against Johnny will send a message to the millions of women out there who suffer from intimate partner violence every single day, that they can move safely on with their lives. And it will allow Amber to move on as well.”
