Late Senator John McCain's beloved pooch Burma, who stayed by her master's side even as the Arizona senator battles a brain tumor, has reportedly died in a "tragic accident". The Chesapeake Bay Retriever was a birthday gift to the Vietnam war veteran in 2014 and recently died at McCain's estate in the Hidden Valley ranch in Arizona. 64-year-old Cindy McCain posted on Instagram on April 8: "To all who loved our dear Burma. She died today in a tragic accident at our beloved Hidden Valley. She is now frolicking with the one she loved most in heaven now."

McCain and his wife loved the dog very much and would often post pictures and videos of themselves and Burma playing on the ranch, the Daily Mail reported. Meghan McCain, his daughter, shared a picture of her late father posing with Burma on his lap on her Instagram profile. She said that the pooch was "absolutely and truly devoted to him".

Meghan wrote in her tribute to Burma: "She would never leave his side, followed him around every single step when he would walk around our ranch, slept by his side every night and we always said Chesapeake Bay Retrievers were the most affectionate breed of dogs."

She then added: "The love this dog gave him was equal to a family member. I love you Burma and hope you’re in heaven jumping into creeks, chasing sticks and fish with Dad. You brought us all so much love and joy."

'The View' co-host also shared an image of the beloved animal at her wedding in 2017 but then deleted the post after some time. Burma could be seen sitting right at her favorite master's feet as she, John, and Cindy posed. Meghan also shared a video of her father, that was posted in 2017, playing fetch in the river with the dog along with the caption, "Burma at her best!".

The family did not go into any details regarding what kind of accident ended up taking Burma's life. The dog died 8 months after McCain died after his battle with stage 4 brain cancer at 81-years-old on August 25, 2018.

Meghan shared an image of her father along with the caption: "I miss you the most on Sundays." She had previously said she and her late father had weekly phone calls with each other on that day. After John had announced his diagnosis in July 2017, Meghan posted a picture of her hiking with her father and Burma. She wrote in the caption: "Amazing hike with Dad this morning." Just a month after her post, the late senator shared a video of Burma playing fetch and running through a creek, which Meghan reposted on her page after Burma died.
