John Legend backs Biden for prez but Internet thinks he's got more chance at winning the gold in female gymnastics
The tragic death of George Floyd led to massive nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism. The tragedy took a political twist after President Donald Trump ordered military action against protesters. Meanwhile, Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the 2020 presidential election, is finding support among many important figures. One among them being singer John Legend.
Revealing his political opinion, Legend took to Twitter to post, "I support #TeamJoe because this nightmare of a presidency needs to end. Join us tomorrow, Thursday, June 11th." The picture was an invitation to an event with the former vice president and Dr Jill Biden, where Legend would be present along with other celebrities such as Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Hudson, Andra Day and Jay Leno. No sooner did he tweet in favor of #TeamJoe, fans expressed their disappointment. "You’ve got a better shot of winning the gold medal in female gymnastics than Biden does of being elected president. We’re basically f***ed as a nation either way," one said and another wrote, "Loud and clear John Legend basically is pushing for his own agendas." One went on to say, "Meanwhile, anarchists have seized control of parts of Seattle under the guise of George Floyd protests. Fun times."
Some tweeted in Biden's support. "I have to be at work at 7 pm but will DEFINITELY be tuned in! I'm so very proud that Joe Biden threw his hat in the ring. He is an amazing choice to get this country back on track. I know it won’t be easy but he has the tenacity to do it right!" one fan posted and another wrote, "Thank you @johnlegend for understanding how important this election is. We need to vote like our life depends on it because for some, it does. We can't do another 4 years of Trumpism!"
But many others slammed him and threatened to cancel him along with Chrissy Teigen. "Never gonna happen. They are amazing. You are definitely getting canceled. Right now," one tweet read and another said, "Lol you and Chrissy gonna get canceled now because the left can't help themselves even 1 time." Another Twitter user said, "I guess the qualifications are you have to be worth at least 100 million to be a supporter of Joe Biden." A few tweets even went on to spell out why Biden is not right for the country. "You would support any Democrat because you have to as an entertainer — if you didn’t, you would no longer have a career — did you support Biden when he pushed the drug war and pushed for more jails?" one said. Another wrote, "So, a man that can’t put a sentence together is going to be better for our Country? #Clueless." One even went on to post, "The way he touches lil girls, and let’s not forget what he had to say about tan folks back in the day and his latest stunt. But okay..."
