John Legend did not hold himself back as he took to social media to slam US Presdident Donald Trump for comparing the impeachment proceedings against him to a 'lynching'.

“So some day,” the president tweeted on October 22, “if a Democrat becomes president and the Republicans win the House, even by a tiny margin, they can impeach the president, without due process or fairness or any legal rights. All Republicans must remember what they are witnessing here – a lynching. But we will WIN!”

While speaking on a panel, 'Legend Has It: Activism and Influence in the Age of Trump', at Vanity Fair's 6th Annual New Establishment Summit, 40-year-old Legend shared, "He’s a despicable human being, and he says sh***y things all the time. (He's) just a sh***y person. Every day he's the opposite of what you would want your child to be".

He went on to explain and spell out how impeachment is nothing like lynching. "[Lynching] is the exact opposite of what impeachment is. Impeachment is laid out in the Constitution," the singer shared. He also added that there is "nothing extra-legal about this process."

During the conversation, Legend also put forth his opinion as to why POTUS would have made such a comment.

He explained, "He contrasts [impeachment] with what lynching was, nasty and evil. Driven by hate, fear, mob mentality. It’s despicable!" The 'All of Me' singer also spoke about the comments that Trump had made on his family and about his wife Chrissy Teigen.

He shared that Trump had called her a 'filthy-mouthed wife and didn’t tag her'.

"She, in her own inimitable way, called him out on that and told him exactly what he is," Legend shared. In September this year, Trump had called out "boring" Legend and his wife Teigen and had accused them of not giving him credit for new criminal justice reforms on Twitter.

Trump's tweet came after Lester Holt's NBC Nightly News segment about criminal justice reform which featured Legend. Legend is the founder of FREEAMERICA, an organization that raises awareness about criminal justice reform.

"When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help. I got it done with a group of Senators & others who would never have gone for it. Obama couldn’t come close," Trump had shared.

He went on to add that "musician @johnlegend and his filthy-mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is - but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed."
