CNN has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism lately for declaring that "there is no consensus criteria for assigning sex at birth" in a news report about transgender athletes playing women's sports. While many people on Twitter couldn't help but slam the article, it also became a laughing stock for CNN's top contenders like Fox News.

On Wednesday, March 31, during an interview on Fox News with Tucker Carlson, Louisiana GOP Rep John Kennedy went on a long rant about the latest CNN article that claims that we can’t know a child’s “gender identity” at birth. But before the two came to it, they first shared a hearty laugh.

The article by CNN breaking news and politics reporter Devan Cole headlined, 'South Dakota's governor issues executive orders banning transgender athletes from women's sports,' noted South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, banned transgender girls and women from competing in women’s sports with a pair of executive orders.

Carlson began the interview, "Cole was writing about South Dakota’s legislation on transgender athletes. Cole wrote this line, and amazingly, CNN published it. We’re quoting this directly from the CNN website. Here it is, ‘It’s not possible to know a person’s gender identity at birth, and there is no consensus criteria for assigning sex at birth'." He continued to add, "Meaning that for literally hundreds of thousands of years, human beings have been reproducing in caves, huts, hospitals, this little squealing human comes out butt naked, and no one has been able to determine whether this kid was a boy or a girl. No one has known! [Because] there’s just no way to know."

It is here where he introduced his guest for the episode. “Because biology’s not real; totally fake. Is there some way to tell, if you were to have a baby — if you were to take time from your vacationing and your internet use and your weed smoke, if you actually decided [to] perpetuate the species and you had a child — how would you know if that child was a boy or a girl?” Carlson asked. He then proceeded to ask Kennedy how to know if a baby was a boy or a girl.

Kennedy chose to first respond with a jab. "The person who wrote that is entitled to his opinion, but in my opinion, I think he’s been in lockdown too long."

"Sex is the language we use to describe reproduction. In humans, there are only two sexes — male and female. Males have the potential to produce sperm; females have the potential to produce ova. These are observable physical characteristics. Sex is not a spectrum. It’s binary; you’re either male or female," Kennedy added.

"Now, I do believe that gender dysphoria exists. It’s rare, maybe one in 30,000 males, one in 100,000 females. Gender dysphoria is not an observable physical characteristic. It’s an internal feeling. It’s an internal feeling that a person of one sex has when he internally identifies with another sex. I think most Americans believe it’s wrong to discriminate against someone because of an immutable characteristic, like sex or race," he added.

And finally, he said, "I mean, it’s very easy to tell a boy from a girl. A boy has a penis, a girl has a vagina.”

On Twitter, as social media users bash CNN's article, many liked what Kennedy had to say. "Right on! Tucker!" one complimented the host. "Funny. I found out we were having a girl at about 16 weeks...by a DNA and genetic test. But science..." one commented. "Sad that these conversations even have to take place. We live in a sick culture. Senator Kennedy explains some basics about gender and sexuality," another user said.

Social media users continued bashing CNN. "Whackodoodles at CNN have claimed that the sexual identity has no biological basis. Tucker Carlson had to invited Senator Kennedy to explain the difference between boys and girls etc. I am afraid it will be more advanced science than the CNN folks' best PhD programs!" Another tweeted, "Not sure what I loved more, the level of sarcasm or the level of truth."
